Is my daughters name awful?

I have a DD (no longer a baby) who is called Keira. I have seen threads about “K” apparently being chavvy and also threads discussing the spelling of this name.

I specifically chose this spelling for 2 reasons. 1 - I’m Scottish and it’s the feminine form of the boys name Keir. 2 - because although there are alternative spellings (Ciara and Kiera), this is the most commonly used spelling.

After reading the other threads, I just worry I’ve made a bad choice with this and that my daughter may some day be unhappy with her name.

Have I made a big mistake?

Personally I don’t love it, but that’s just because it’s not my style. It’s a perfectly nice name, and non-offensive imo.

WindFlower92 · 05/02/2020 11:06

I think it's nice and feminine - I think of Keira Knightley and she's definitely not chavvy!

Reginabambina · 05/02/2020 11:07

The only thing that it makes me think of is Keira nightly.

Rainbowqueeen · 05/02/2020 11:07

Not awful at all

YappityYapYap · 05/02/2020 11:08

I like it

ploughingthrough · 05/02/2020 11:09

Do you like it? That is all that matters. It is not a name that will ever embarrass your daughter so if you like it then don't worry.
My dd has a flower name that not everyone likes- I don't give a hoot because I love it and it suits her.

ImTheOnlyUpsyOne · 05/02/2020 11:09

It's a lovely....please don't let snobbery get to you. I'm very surprised it's viewed as chavvy

AudaCityLimits · 05/02/2020 11:09

I think it's lovely. Really pretty but also strong. There was a Keira in This Life wasn't there? I wouldn't think chavvy at all.

Deadringer · 05/02/2020 11:09

I am Irish and more familiar with the Ciara version, but Keira is a lovely name, it's pretty and easy to say. Mn can be a bit snobby about names at times, try not to worry about it.

Mrsjayy · 05/02/2020 11:10

I know an adult Kiera and a younger Kiera it is a nice name and certainly not awful.

Whatsyourflava · 05/02/2020 11:11

Remind yourself that people will make negative comments about every single name. No name will be universally liked on here and that’s why people come here for advice. For obvious reasons you are focusing on the name Keira and focusing on the negative comments . Do you have an alternative name in mind? Because that name will have negative feedback on here too

Even the safest choice of name (eg Emma or Oliver) will have many people saying they are dull and boring

I personally like Keira and I always think it’s sensible to choose the most common spelling

Mrsjayy · 05/02/2020 11:11

Spelling so sorry Blush I am also scottish and it is a known normal name.

TiddyTid · 05/02/2020 11:13

My adult daughter is a Keira Smile

FlowerArranger · 05/02/2020 11:14

Keira sounds lovely.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise Smile

Love it!

FebruaryRainandSleet · 05/02/2020 11:23

I like it. I'd put it in the 'nice normal name' list with Clara and Katie.

I have a perfectly ordinary name with more than one spelling, You just get used to saying 'with-an-e' automatically when you introduce yourself

Shakirasma · 05/02/2020 11:25

Its 16 YO DD's name, though hers is spelled Kira.

Nothing chavvy about it, it's very pretty.

Isbutteracarb · 05/02/2020 11:25
