DH really likes Anne but I’m not entirely convinced.
I don’t like Annie or Anna for sure but Anne is one I’m on the fence about.
Any thoughts?

I like it, but prefer Anna.

WellHolyGodMiley · 02/02/2020 21:52

It is hardly there at all.

I like Anna or Anya or Annie but Anne isn't quite enough.

Lovely strong timeless name. Ann or Anne. Much used in my family, which is full of strong women. 50 million times better than all the girly names ending in -ie or-a which are two a penny these days.

I don’t hate it but all the Anne’s I know are 40+ .. it reminds me of all my mums friends. She knows loads of Anne’s! But if you like it than go for it! I hate how opinionated people are on children’s names. Pick what you love.

Pipandmum · 02/02/2020 22:12

Anne is a lovely name. Mother of Mary.

Tinty · 02/02/2020 22:12

Don’t do it OP. It is my name and I have always hated it, it is dull, boring and all the girls in books who are the dull wallflowers are called Anne, whilst the Heroines are called Katherine or Elizabeth.

When I was at school there was no one called Anne a couple of Ann-Marie’s but no other Anne’s.

Every single other Anne I have met is 20 years older than me.

Just to reiterate it is DULL. This is from an Anne.

Call her Astrid, much more interesting 😁

milliefiori · 02/02/2020 22:14

I love Anna or Anya/Anja/Ania and Annie is OK. But Anne/Ann is like saying: we hope you are dull.

MotherofPearl · 02/02/2020 22:30

I think Anne is a lovely name. There's an Anne at my DS's school. I guess she's 8, and really suits it. It's a real classic imo.

Tillygetsit · 02/02/2020 22:37

Dh's grandma is Ann short for Angela. She is a force to be reckoned with.

Graymare · 02/02/2020 22:45

Classic, strong and as pps have said so refreshingly unfrilly.
Definitely due a revival along with Jane.

georgialondon · 02/02/2020 23:11

Really dislike it.

Love Anna though Smile

TARSCOUT · 02/02/2020 23:15

Love Anne with an e (green gables)

Anniecott · 02/02/2020 23:17

It's obviously entirely up to you but speaking as an Anne who everyone calls Annie including myself, it's boring. X

beanaseireann · 02/02/2020 23:38

Anna is so much nicer

Pemba · 03/02/2020 04:09

I don't dislike it, definitely a classic, but it does seem a little plain. As it's so short, it will inevitably be lengthened, probably into Annie, which I'm surprised you don't like. Anna is lovely, also surprised you don't like that.

Astronica · 03/02/2020 04:13

It's okay but a bit on the dull side I think. I much prefer the other Anne options such as Anna.

GRW · 03/02/2020 08:29

I love it but only with an e. If you want something classic but unusual go for it. In the next generation less frilly girls names might be popular again.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 03/02/2020 17:58

I like Anna because it's a stronger name. But Anne is pretty 'vanilla'...

123Dancewithme · 03/02/2020 21:41

Anne, Jane and Mary are all due a comeback I think.

El2020 · 04/02/2020 05:11

I like it! But feel like a short name needs a longer middle name to go with it.

BodenGate · 04/02/2020 05:38

I’d go for Anna which is timeless and classic.

userabcname · 04/02/2020 05:42

Terribly dull.

paintfairy · 04/02/2020 07:53

😂 Funny how it's perceived as dull. I think Anne written is pretty. I suppose it is dull compared to the modern fad of names (many which I hate). Anne is actually my middle name. I used to hate it. But I've now decided if I ever have a girl, I'd quite like to use it as a middle name.

I think it wouldn't be weird to use it now, older names are coming back. So OP - use it if you really love it.

WellHolyGodMiley · 04/02/2020 08:08

I agree simpler names are coming back. I like Jane and Mary and Anna or Annie. But just Anne. There is nothing to it. It's not even clearly a name.
