So me and my partner are due to have a baby in April, it's our first together but we both have 2 children each from previous relationships. He has a girl and boy named Hollie and Charlie, I have two boys name Logan and Leo.
We have both come up with the name "Winter" for our expected baby boy, my partner and I love it, however i am so worried it's too "out there" i like names a little different but not bizarre and I feel this name is just bizarre, im worried what people would think especially family members and I dont want to set this child up with a ridiculous name that will have any sort of effect on his life, I really would appriciate unbiased opinions of this name please from uk mums, thankyou x

I can't say I personally like Hunter but it is a boys name.
I prefer Winter as a name but I would expect it to be given to a girl nowadays.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 30/01/2020 15:37

Hunter is nice! Its popular here in the states! I think it goes well with your other children's names too!

I was thinking about Winter more too. I still think Winters sounds more masculine but I guess the s is a tad throwey may not work with a lot of middle or surnames! I think Winter could work for a boy it's just used for more girls but it's still unisex I would think. Unless season names are reserved for girls. Like I dont think anyone uses Summer or Autumn for boys. I've only met one Spring and she was a girl also. But I think of all the season names Winter is the most unisex one.

If it snows in April or he ends up being a Marxh baby then yes, otherwise no. I do think season and month names are best used appropriately. But I like it. It has a strong sound.

I generally like conventional names but Winter sounds quite classy to me. It's not the greatest match with very common names like Charlie and Logan, but you're allowed to switch styles especially with a half sibling.
I notice many comments saying it's a girl's name. It's really annoying how many names get earmarked as girl only but not the other way round. Claim this one for boys too. There's nothing inherently girlish about Winter.

Whatsyourflava · 30/01/2020 16:15

Hunter is a good strong name @GemmaWild14

How about using Winter as a middle name? It’s a really cool name I think

sel2223 · 30/01/2020 20:35

I know 2 baby girls born within the last 18 months called winter so it's not as 'out there' as it once was.
It's a common surname in our family though so I struggle to see past that

I think Hugo would go well with your other names. If your son grows up to be interesting in conservation he may not like having the label Hunter.

I don't think winter is a feminine name at all. It's very harsh sounding and so is Hunter.
Unless born in the depths of winter, it's too Try hard sounding.

CustomerCervixDepartment · 31/01/2020 13:32

Hunter is a vile thing to do, and an unpleasant noise, rhymes easily with cunt and munter. Why doesn’t your bloke change his name if he likes the noun hunter, and pick a better name for kid no. 5.

Wegetbuggerall · 31/01/2020 13:36

Winter is a girls name who should be born in winter. Utterly bonkers to name a boy born in april winter.

Funkycats · 31/01/2020 13:37

I like the name Winter.

Jobloggs14 · 31/01/2020 14:57

@CustomerCervixDepartment

Wow, what a pleasant person you seem to be, if you are going on what it rhymes with you will find most names with rhyme with an insult of some kind if you think hard enough, what a ridiculous comment

Toddlerteaplease · 31/01/2020 15:01

I knew a baby called winter. The problem was his surname was also a common first name. So people got very confused. However his parents were horrible so it's a definite no from me.

CustomerCervixDepartment · 31/01/2020 15:12

I am, thanks jo ☺️ Obviously I was writing what other people’s precious little darlings would think up to tease the word hunter. HTH

FizzyGreenWater · 31/01/2020 16:10

Wunter?

Best of both worlds.

TatianaLarina · 31/01/2020 16:14

Or Munter?

Worst of all worlds...

mathanxiety · 31/01/2020 19:35

I like it, but it's a girl's name.
