So me and my partner are due to have a baby in April, it's our first together but we both have 2 children each from previous relationships. He has a girl and boy named Hollie and Charlie, I have two boys name Logan and Leo.
We have both come up with the name "Winter" for our expected baby boy, my partner and I love it, however i am so worried it's too "out there" i like names a little different but not bizarre and I feel this name is just bizarre, im worried what people would think especially family members and I dont want to set this child up with a ridiculous name that will have any sort of effect on his life, I really would appriciate unbiased opinions of this name please from uk mums, thankyou x

Lovely name for a little girl born in midwinter but for a spring baby it seems a bit odd

cushioncovers · 28/01/2020 22:51

I would think it was a girls name if I heard it.

HannahC86 · 28/01/2020 22:57

Love it, and more importantly... so do you! The test will be if you mind the negative comments on here because if you dont it means its the one and you wont care about negative comments in real-life either!

georgialondon · 28/01/2020 23:02

The names fine, not really out there, but not good for an April born child.

Astronica · 28/01/2020 23:09

It's a no from me. I like Winter as a girl's name, and it would work fine as a middle name for a boy. It's usage in recent years has been almost all for girls, and I tend to go with common usage on these questions.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 28/01/2020 23:13

I love Winter but think of it as a girls name like Summer and Autumn.

What if it were Winters? Does that make it more masculine. Not sure if that helps with the bizarre label in the UK! But I find it more masculine.

I also like Whistler or Whittaker.

PointlessUsername · 28/01/2020 23:17

I like it but would presume a girl, it doesn't flow at all well with the siblings names.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 29/01/2020 00:12

Winton?

Sounds a bit more masculine.

I'm neutral about Winter but as PPs have said, it shouldn't matter what other people think and children grow into their names anyway.

TatianaLarina · 29/01/2020 01:23

I know a Winter, she’s female. Also agree odd name for an April baby.

William

There is a winter in my sons class (year 3) I think it really suits him

Pigsmightfly212 · 29/01/2020 12:37

I wouldn't worry about not being born in the season of their name.
I know a Summer who was born in October, and a May who was born in December. It's never an issue for either of them.

Urkiddingright · 29/01/2020 12:41

No I don’t like it but I don’t like summer either. Winter for a baby born in spring is quite odd too.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 29/01/2020 21:32

I knew a September who was born in August.

It was a bit odd for a few months and then she was just September.

emilybrontescorsett · 29/01/2020 22:17

No I think your child will get sick and tired of saying " No, my mum didn't look outside on the day she went into labour and see a snow covered scene in the midst of a cold December. I was born on a sunny day in spring! "

septsapp · 29/01/2020 22:31

@BewitchedBotheredandBewildered i nearly called mine September a few months back! It was a worry that she would come early or late but I think I'd have had it anyway if I'd have decided on it 💯 x

1stTimeMama · 29/01/2020 23:06

My immediate thought was it doesn't go at all with the other children's names, and then that I think of it being a girls name.

I would rethink, especially as you seem so unsure on actually using it, despite how much you like it.

Yehdivvy · 30/01/2020 05:53

You're not just naming a baby, you're naming a child who will grow up into an adult. You need to choose a name that will work through all stages of his life, not just the cute baby stage.

Can you imagine your son at secondary school with the girl's name winter. He'll be a target for bullies once they find out his birthday is in April & not actually in the winter season. Protect your child and give him a boy's name that won't make him a target for bullies.

user1480880826 · 30/01/2020 05:55

Terrible name for a boy born in spring.

Although, actually, it’s a terrible name for any child born at any time of year. A boy especially would be teased for a name like that.

Traditionalwife · 30/01/2020 08:29

Oooh my guilty pleasure name for a girl is 'Robyn Winter Grace' winter sounds alright on a boy too.Flowers

GemmaWild14 · 30/01/2020 12:28

Ok so this has had the kind of response I thought it would, alot of negative comments and some positive ones (thankyou!) I think I will stay away from Winter. My partner had his heart set on it but we also like Hunter, what are everyones thoughts on that?

JKScot4 · 30/01/2020 12:30

Frosty? Snowy?
Just give him a name in fitting with the other kids.

Chickenitalia · 30/01/2020 12:35

I really like Hunter, much better. When I saw it was for a boy actually thought Hunter would work. But not if his last name will be Wild as in your username, that might be pushing it a bit too far!

TatianaLarina · 30/01/2020 12:47

Much prefer Hunter.
