So me and my partner are due to have a baby in April, it's our first together but we both have 2 children each from previous relationships. He has a girl and boy named Hollie and Charlie, I have two boys name Logan and Leo.
We have both come up with the name "Winter" for our expected baby boy, my partner and I love it, however i am so worried it's too "out there" i like names a little different but not bizarre and I feel this name is just bizarre, im worried what people would think especially family members and I dont want to set this child up with a ridiculous name that will have any sort of effect on his life, I really would appriciate unbiased opinions of this name please from uk mums, thankyou x

just give him a normal name FFS. would your partner like to be called Hunter?

TatianaLarina · 30/01/2020 12:54

Hunter Davies doesn’t seem to mind.

blueruin · 30/01/2020 12:56

He's bound to be veggie or vegan. Then this happens.

^^ yes he would LOVE to be called Hunter. Can you explain the definition of normal please as we most definitely are not a normal family 😂

Quartz2208 · 30/01/2020 13:02

Winter is a girls name. Hunter at least is a boys name

BUT do look at the names you have already do you really want to start a proper blended family with a name that is a different style to the others. It marks him out as different from the start. In a group Charlie Logan and Leo are all together. Hunter sticks out.

For a first baby I would say fine but please remember the above

Yehdivvy · 30/01/2020 13:43

Sorry I don't like Hunter either but it's better than Winter. There was a boy in my school who was a terrible bully & his name was Hunter. That's just my personal choice though, I much prefer names like Sebastian, Nicco & Louis etc.

RockinHippy · 30/01/2020 13:46

It's not unusual here. I know of 3. It's a girls name though

ODFOx · 30/01/2020 13:46

I know a little boy called Winter. His family are arty. They carry it off and it suits him. If you like it go for it OP.

ODFOx · 30/01/2020 13:47

Winter is much better than Hunter.

ODFOx · 30/01/2020 13:51

Charlie, Logan, Leo .....
and Hugh or Lucas or Rowan or Seth

Ingridla · 30/01/2020 13:55

Love Hunter, strong, gorgeous name

Winter is a season not a name

stophuggingme · 30/01/2020 13:56

Isn’t it a girls name?
It also sounds at odds with your other children’s names

Hollie, Charlie, Logan, Leo and ........Winter Hmm

Dexter / Jasper / Dylan / Rufus all sound quite nice with the other names though!

stophuggingme · 30/01/2020 13:57

Hunter is awful

firstimemamma · 30/01/2020 14:01

If you really love it then go for it op Smilebut here are the reasons i don't like it:

  • it's a very strange choice for a child who wasn't born in winter.
  • none of the other 4 children have 'out there names' so your child may question why he was the only one given a different sounding name.
  • sounds like a girls' name
  • winter is a season that a lot of people dislike and associate with being miserable so there's potential for teasing at school.
Sorry op.
Happityhap · 30/01/2020 14:04

I haven't come across anyone called Winter and it sounds like a boy's name to me, unlike most people on here.

I'd not choose something so dissimilar to your other kids' names, tho.

firstimemamma · 30/01/2020 14:07

Just seen your update op. Personally not keen on hunter either but also don't really understand why our opinions matter to you. If you and your partner like a name then just go for it!

When we chose our son's name what others thought of it didn't even occur to us.

Good luck choosing a name!

Happityhap · 30/01/2020 14:15

As an aside, a friend loved the name River for her expected baby but when she mentioned it to her older DCs they said "Absolutely not - they'll get massive teasing at school."

So maybe consult your 4 children?

FizzyGreenWater · 30/01/2020 14:25

Thank goodness for no Winter - it's ok, but definitely not ok for a boy.

Hunter's good! I quite like it.

How about Heath?

measelsmumpsandweasels · 30/01/2020 14:42

Hunter is better than Winter and goes better with Leo and Logan. Do you want to stay with an L for this baby so he doesn't feel different? Maybe Luke?

SageRosemary · 30/01/2020 14:43

Not keen on Winter, and especially not for a boy - does it shorten to Winnie (The Pooh)?

Hunter is okay but he one thing all your DC have in common is a strong L sound - would Luke fit in nicely for you?

Hollie, Charlie, Logan, Leo and ...
Luke
Laurence/Larry
Eli
Levi
Liam
Luca
