Baby names

Eleanor?

What do people think of Eleanor? We're really struggling for girls name ideas. Seem to like quite traditional names, don't really mind if it's too popular.
Only thing is not too keen on nn "Ellie"
Any other suggestions we'd be v grateful! Due first baby in a few days time...

Rarely does my name get shortened (Eleanor) but if it does i get called Elle

My sister is Elinor. I love it (I actually chose it!) and although she doesn’t go by it, if it was my name I would go by Nell or Nora. Love it pronounced El-I-nor not El-I-nuh.

I dislike Elinor (hate the or sound)

I much prefer the name Elena

Sorry meant to say I dislike Eleanor as I don't like the ending- or sound.

Elena sounds much nicer

Leonora is also beautiful. Or Elena.

But not Eleanor or Elinor.

Most people dont pronounce it properly anyway, they say Elena not Eleanor in my experience

Really? Elean-or is pronounced Elen-a?!

I pronounce Eleanor like Helena without the 'h' (the Helen-a pronunciation) not with an -or sound on the end. That sounds odd to me.

I'd pronounce Elena el-AY-na.

I think it's lovely, though hate Ellie but I think you could push Ella or Nora instead. My daughter as a different name that is often shortened to Ellie but we've pushed a different nn and nobody calls her Ellie.

I prefer Eleanore and Eleanora myself, but much prefer Eleanor to Elinor

Sorry no, sounds like an older ladies name

Don't like it, I'm afraid. I find it quite harsh sounding

My favourite name. I had a boy but it was the name I had chosen for a girl. It sounds elegant, timeless and feminine

I know an Eleanor who is called Nora and it really suits her! Lovely name

I love it! There are a lot of Ellie's and Wlla's about though, if that bothers you...

I have an Eleanor. It's a beautiful name. I thought it suited my dark haired newborn. Wouldn't have picked it for a blonde (not sure why) and then at 6 weeks all her dark hair fell out and grew back white blonde! Still blonde now at 11. Best name ever.

It's very classic. I like it but probably wouldn't use it myself - well I have two girls and didn't so I guess I won't now!

I do however LOVE Elena - I've been watching too much Elena of Avalor! There was also an Elena in Dallas, I think it's the Hispanic version.

Lovely name. My DD now 16 is Eleanor after Eleanor of Aquitaine but is mainly and Ellie now. I hadn't realised how popular it was at the time but still think it's lovely.

If you want something slightly different , Eleanor comes form Alianor I believe.

I love it. It's one of my favourite names and I seriously considered it for dd2 but I love the pronunciation Elean-or and really dislike Elean-a and E-lay-na and I think people would automatically change it.

Just to add into to the mix, I love Elin which is welsh pronounced A (like the letter A) a-lin or Eh-lin.
I like Eleanor, I’d shorten to to Leni or Nora.

I love Eleanor. I think it’s a classic name, but it also makes me think of strong and intelligent women like Eleanor of Aquitaine and Eleanor Roosevelt
