What do you think of the girls name Shireen?

I like it the more I say it OP, although unfortunately I have to agree that it has the potential to be a bit chavy sorry.

Sorry, really dislike 'een' names - just sound so depressing and whiney and fishwife.

Never heard of this and I’m from Glasgow.

Makes me think either of a Marlene from only fools type character or Shereen Nanjiani who used to read the Scottish news. Not keen.

It sounds a lovely name to me, but i have never seen GOT.

Taught one Shireen, only. She was absolutely lovely.

I thought it looked like a slightly less nice version of Shirley

It's a real name, just from a different culture. Has a nice sound. Also, not everything is about GoT, the name predates the character.

Like you squashed Shirley and Noreen together.

Horrid, especially when said with an Aussie accent-which it is screaming out for...

I knew a shireen once, a long time ago. Never heard the name since (30 years or so ago!) don't watch GoT so would T have associated it with that.

Should have said I like it, beautiful name.

Immediately thought of GoT Lovely character but awful ending for her! Betrayed by her parents and killed horribly...

Almost all the Shireens that I’ve come across have been Egyptian, Persian and Pakistani bar one who was Afro-Caribbean called Chereene but pronounced as “Shireen”. I think it’s a nice name. I also like Serena which has the similar feel as Shireen.

From Edinburgh and I know it as rhyming slang for fanny!

Never seen Game of Thrones but, to me, it is a mix of Doreen and Shirley- 2 very old fashioned names.

Shereen Nanjiani's fellow news reader Jim Delahunt created a similarly amusing which appeals to my very immature sense of humour rhyming slang phrase for the same body area 😃

Back n the 1990s I worked with a Dr called Shireen. She was smart, funny, down to earth and had the broadest Manchester accent ever. I can only think good things about the name.

I know a Cherin, it's a lovely and very feminine name. It is also used in the Arabic world.
Not everyone has seen Game of Thrones, putting the name in the thread title will have attracted the posters who have seen it so the answers you are getting are skewed.
In any case, no one will be talking about Game of Thrones in the future.

I knew one at uni, but it was spelt with an 'e' not an 'i' and it was much softer.
Now with GoT, I think it's probably not as good.
