We’re expecting our second baby girl later this year and We’re a bit stuck for names.

We were so quick to pick our first daughters name and knew it was right straight away. But I’m really struggling this time!

What are people’s thoughts on Indie as a first name? I absolutely love it but not sure if it’s a name I’d regret in later years?

Thank you Smile

How about Polo?
There's a cute clown fish in Chester Zoo (who actually, rather trendily, changed biological sex), called Polo. It's gorgeous. The fish I mean.

like Indie but feel it's too similar to Marnie

Prettylittlelady · 17/10/2019 22:00

I like it, but like others I’ve said not as a given name. I know of an India and an indigo that go by this nn.
But it’s nice and if you like it go for it.

Paintedmaypole · 17/10/2019 22:20

Indie music, indie film, indie referendum. India is nicer, Indigo, very hippy but okay. Indie, no.

DramaAlpaca · 17/10/2019 22:52

I think Indie is quite sweet & goes nicely with Marnie.

Groovee · 17/10/2019 22:59

My cousin's Dd is Indie. She really suits her name.

aibutohavethisusername · 17/10/2019 23:03

I like it

Livpool · 17/10/2019 23:13

I immediately thought of Indiana Jones

PandasMum · 17/10/2019 23:31

It’s a genre of music to my ears not a name

Kokeshi123 · 18/10/2019 03:28

It's a (vomit-inducing) word for a private school.

Dino44 · 18/10/2019 07:55

It’s not terrible but it’s a shortening for independent to me, not a name. Prefer India which seems to be the consensus on the thread.

Consider surname carefully too. A friend of a friend called her daughter Indie...surname Wright. We all eye rolled at that one.

sibbys · 14/05/2020 14:50

What did you end up calling your daugher? We also have Indie at the top of our list.

catinb0oots · 14/05/2020 14:55

Joe bloody Wicks

Whatsyourflava · 14/05/2020 15:08

@sibbys love it gorgeous name ❤️

Hello! I’d very much appreciate gender guesses, based on skull or nub theory, I know what I think but I’m curious to see what others think! Thankyou so much, find out on the 10th of April and the wait feels so long 😄

Morning mamas!

So I’m currently pregnant with my 3rd and last baby. I already have a boy and a girl

Rex and Indie, I’d love some suggestions for our third little one, we don’t know the gender yet so suggestions for both are welcome!

We prefer shorter edgier names. Preferably 4 letters if possible Thankyou so much!

PiratePetespajamas · 23/03/2022 12:10

Call her India, it’s a lovely name. Indie for short if you must. It gets said to death on here but you really do have to try to think past the baby/toddler and imagine her being more than a painter/model/influencer: she might appreciate a name with more gravitas and that way you give the choice to her.

PiratePetespajamas · 23/03/2022 12:11

Hmm zombie thread

I think it goes with Marnie. I prefer Indie to India myself. I know what you mean op about the nn thing. My name is often short for other names. I really feel my name is me. But I don't have any relationship with the names it can be short for. If Marnie can be a full name or Maisy or any of those, why can't Indie be one? I think mumsnet can have a strange attitude to what constitutes a real name. Some nns become separate names over time. And some form new names entirely. Think Polly for example. And all the creative spellings over years are what creates lots of different names too yet there's a lot of sleepiness about that on here too. Indie makes me think of indie as in independent film. So it's a positive from me.

Concestor · 23/03/2022 13:41

Indie, India, indigo etc all make me think of overprivileged hippies a la the 1990s.

Whatsinaname4 · 23/03/2022 13:51

I think it’s very insipid and bland. Nearly falling asleep thinking of family get together with twee Indie, Marnie & Emmie.

Savoretti · 23/03/2022 13:56

Makes me think of Joe Wicks who has Indie and Marley. Indie and Marnie sounds too much like a copy to me
