Thoughts on the name Indie

We’re expecting our second baby girl later this year and We’re a bit stuck for names.

We were so quick to pick our first daughters name and knew it was right straight away. But I’m really struggling this time!

What are people’s thoughts on Indie as a first name? I absolutely love it but not sure if it’s a name I’d regret in later years?

Thank you Smile

Rocket is a ridiculous name for a child!

Redspider1 · 17/10/2019 17:02

If other people’s opinions bother you, choose a name you’re more sure of.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 17/10/2019 17:03

I would assume it was a nickname, whereas Marnie sounds like a full name.

Also I'd avoid the same end sound with sibling names.

firstimemamma · 17/10/2019 17:09

I don't like it personally but tbh these threads confuse me. Why would you care what a bunch of strangers online think of a name? As long as you like it, that's all that matters.

ThisLittlePiggyWentTo · 17/10/2019 17:12

It's very popular where I live. I know 3 small ones!

FreckledLeopard · 17/10/2019 17:16

Don't like it. I associate it with 'ref' (Indie-referendum). I also don't like shortened versions of names being used as 'proper' names. It also seems a bit try-hard and alternative. Sorry.

hairyturkey · 17/10/2019 17:18

It's ok but very popular where we are

mrsk28 · 17/10/2019 17:19

If you both like Indie then go for it, it's a nice name. People will always have an opinion no matter what you pick. And I love your first daughter's name!

I think Indie is nice for a child but India is a very classy name for an adult. I would give her the choice.

notso · 17/10/2019 17:21

I completely associate it as a twee name for private schools on MN.
Yup. Usually follows super selective, highly academic or an amazing little.

byefeliciabye · 17/10/2019 17:29

I love it! Go for it!🌸

GeorgiaGirl52 · 17/10/2019 17:30

Indie is short for Indiana as in "Indiana Jones" movies.

Notwiththeseknees · 17/10/2019 17:35

My favourite Jack Russell is called Indie.....

Notwiththeseknees · 17/10/2019 17:37

Just read your other post and I know a Rocket - Jack Russell Terrier and a Binkie - Labradoodle .....,

Just waiting for you to mention your nephew called Spot or Fido Grin

BigRedBoat · 17/10/2019 17:43

Joe Wicks' daughter is called Indie so it just makes me think of him. It's not terrible though.

ilovetofu · 17/10/2019 17:44

Love it but it should be short for India or Indigo - and call me old fashioned but I'd give the former to a girl and the latter to a boy. Great name though! 👍👍👍

Lowlandlucky · 17/10/2019 17:51

My cousin has a daughter named India Rose and she gets called Indie, i like it

coconuttymummy · 17/10/2019 17:55

I love Indie. I think it's becoming more popular lately, which puts me off a little, but I think it's a lovely name.

OceanPearl · 17/10/2019 18:20

Thank you everyone! It’s seem pretty 50/50 between people who love it and people who aren’t so keen.

I don’t like it at all. It’s too cutesy and forgettable.

OneKeyAtATime · 17/10/2019 19:02

I really like it.

Crystal87 · 17/10/2019 19:06

I don't like it sorry. Agree with a poster who said it sounds incomplete. I heard a boy on the park being called Indie Josh and it just didn't sound quite right.

displaysettings · 17/10/2019 19:09

I know a 22yo Indie. Her parents said they chose it as it's only name they liked. I liked it until they went on to have a Tierney and a Callan. I can see what they were aiming for but I think they missed.

Samsamsuperman · 17/10/2019 19:10

I know a little Indigo who goes by Indie. I think it's lovely.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/10/2019 19:12

Indiana, Indira or India, nn Indy/Indie is lovely, imho...
