I really like both of them!

Bodhi is only a ‘joke’ on MN, it’s fine everywhere else.

Frith2013 · 12/09/2019 09:36

Neither.

sanityisamyth · 12/09/2019 09:41

Neither.

Roman Polanski is the one I first thought of but I doubt he’ll be heard of by our kids’ generation

AverageMummy · 12/09/2019 10:04

The idea mumsnet is some sort of vacuum is a bit odd - we’re real people living different lives from all over the place. If a name is universally hated it’s never going to be loved outside of mumsnet - but people are more reserved about what they say out loud in real life. Although I think mumsnet users are predominantly quite middle class so it’s true that things are hated more like hyphenated names etc when there are lots in society who’d be fine with them (& use a lot of them).

Roman is a lovely name.

I'm not so keen on Bodhi as he'll end up being called Bod no doubt.

Nonmerci · 12/09/2019 11:45

Not keen on either but I’d use Roman if a gun was held to my head.

finallychangedmyusername · 12/09/2019 12:07

Roman

WildCherryBlossom · 12/09/2019 14:06

I think you need to consider the initials. Eg if you begin with a D your child will be either RAD or BAD, with a P RAP or BAP (bread roll in parts of the country), N= RAN or BAN...

You get my drift.

But of the two I prefer Roman personally.

fitzbilly · 12/09/2019 14:12

Bodhi is a lovely name imo

Caselgarcia · 12/09/2019 14:17

Bodhi is just awful. Please don't saddle him with that.

fitzbilly · 12/09/2019 14:19

I really dislike traditional mainstream names like William, Alexander, James etc so I know I'm a minority on Mumsnet though.

kenandbarbie · 12/09/2019 15:15

I like Alexander. Those names will date like Gary and Wayne.

Geebee123 · 13/09/2019 08:21

God knows where you all must live but where I am Roman is not common and asking my friends and family they all love both so maybe mumsnet was the wrong please to ask. Both my daughter's have unusual names which I'm sure not everyone likes but I don't like names that are boring or basic 😊

OP I don't know any little Romans either. Haven't met one at any of my children's various playgroups, sports clubs, schools etc etc etc. It's a known name but definitely not heavily used in my neck of the woods.

sammylilac · 13/09/2019 16:46

Bodhi is my son's name, we chose it not only because it sounds nice but because we follow buddhist beliefs and it's meaning is lovely.

I find it quite sad how so many of you mumsnetter's are bothered by it. Whilst I didn't choose to conform and call my son George, Arthur or Harry, I don't really care if anyone else uses them.

LollyBeebee123 · 13/09/2019 16:49

Roman is the better of the two. Bodhi sounds like a slang pronunciation of the word body. (where I live)

XXcstatic · 13/09/2019 16:55

Bodhi is awful. And culturally insensitive but no one else thinks that

How is it any more culturally insensitive than a Christian calling her child Joshua, or an atheist choosing Adam or Peter? Most names we use in the UK are borrowed from other cultures. You don't meet many authentically Anglo-Saxon Ethelberts thank god

Youresocool87 · 13/09/2019 17:08

BODHI ❤️

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/09/2019 18:05

I can’t hear Bodhi without adding the ‘sattva’ and can’t help but assume the parents must be practising Buddhists. I’m not sure practising Buddhists would call their child Bodhi though... maybe they would?

bridgetreilly · 13/09/2019 18:15

Bodhi Zen Clinic.

I don't like Roman much but it's definitely better than that.

littleduckeggblue · 13/09/2019 18:34

I know a dog called Bodhi

AlbertWinestein · 13/09/2019 18:37

I love Bisho. He’d have to become a skier or surfer though. It’s like the law.

AlbertWinestein · 13/09/2019 18:37

Wtf?! BISHO?!!! That’s the weirdest auto correct ever! I mean Bodhi obviously.

EdWinchester · 13/09/2019 18:40

Both terrible, but Bodhi is particularly dreadful.
