Really sorry for posting so many threads but this naming malarkey is hard work & I love the brutal honesty I can get here ! Grin

Please let me know what you think of these for a boy. We’d also like a name that doesn’t scream a particular class (any) - are we achieving that?

Rowan
Arthur
Robin
Peter

Aries111 · 31/01/2020 10:05

i have a little boy called ruben xx

Peacefrog23 · 31/01/2020 10:05

I like Rowan, Robin and Peter x

TatianaLarina · 31/01/2020 10:53

Robin and Rowan are very wet.

Don’t like Peter or its diminutives, so I guess it would have to be Arthur.

Whatsyourflava · 31/01/2020 11:18

I really love Arthur Robin and Peter!! Arthur is a strong name with so much history as is Peter.
Couldn’t choose between them

Rowan is ok but I prefer for a girl. Don’t like nn Row. I also find it too similar to Roman and that’s the fastest rising boy name, will be top 10 on current trajectory in next year or so. Theres 2 baby Roman’s in my Nct group! Having to say “Rowan with a W” would annoy me.

Whatsyourflava · 31/01/2020 11:19

Hang on is this a zombie thread @AverageMummy it’s quite old!! Expect you’ve had and named baby already?

I hate to say it but I think Arthur is the name on your list with the most in the way of class association for me.

My favourite is Robin.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 31/01/2020 11:34

Darn it - managed to post on an old thread!

I like Peter!

Whatsyourflava · 31/01/2020 12:59

Did you make a decision @AverageMummy

Best of luck with the labour!! For what it’s worth I really love Peter and Arthur. Robin is ok. Don’t like Roman/Rowan.

MikeAlphaMike · 31/01/2020 13:10

Not RTFT.
Rowan - like it but it's probably very popular now and is also used as a girl's name
Arthur - classic but I think it 's just ok
Robin - really like it but Robyn for a girl is pretty popular
Peter - definitely the one I'd pick from your list and I like it a lot.

Averagemummy · 31/01/2020 22:42

I am pretty sure we’re going to go with Arthur...39 weeks so am both excited and nervous now!

Peter - my favourite. Classic, strong, very underused. Love it.

Rowan - quite nice but, although it's a boy's name, have heard it used for girls much more than for boys in the last 20 years.

Arthur - love the name, classic and strong again, but I think it's a bit overused, hence my preferring Peter.

Robin - quite nice, underused. Not a personal favourite but a good name.

FriedasCarLoad · 31/01/2020 22:49

Whoops, didn't see the zombies!

FREEM · 31/01/2020 22:58

Rowan is a girls name in my part of the country and pronounced as it's spelt .. row- ann
I did once call a boy called Rowan and called him row-ann to be told I was wrong it's Roan
anyway I think my point is you may get Rowan mispronounced by people like me!
all lovely timeless and classless names

Jossina · 31/01/2020 23:25

Robert and call him Robin.

Maduixa · 31/01/2020 23:49

I know a man called Robin and people always think he's a woman before meeting him.Especially if they're American.

Can confirm; Americans and American-influenced people will see Robin as a girl name. I have a (male) cousin Robin who moved to the US as a baby and very quickly became "Rob". But you can do Robert with Robin as a nickname; that would be fine.

I like Peter or Arthur as a solid "boy" name out of your choices, if that is a concern.

PinkFlamingo888 · 01/02/2020 07:06

The only one I’d use is Arthur but it seems a bit unpopular here! I know it’s because people think it’s so popular now but in reality I know one in his 20s.
Personally I find Pete to be a name of my parents’ generation and don’t think it’s due a revival just yet but maybe I’m wrong! The other two are fine, I prefer Robin i think but probably wouldn’t use either myself.

eomma · 01/02/2020 16:03

arthur is lovely

ThreeGirlsPlayCharades · 01/02/2020 17:08

My SIL's eldest is called Peter. He is 12 and people are invariably complementary. It was SO unusual when he was born and people were at first Hmm but it grew on them. Cute for a baby and a toddler and a boy. I am biased though because her Peter is the loveliest, most gentle, kindest boy.

And he is the only one in his entire school (except for teachers). You never get another Peter in the class.

BelfortGabbz · 01/02/2020 21:00

Sorry, HATE Arthur so much. Reminds me of a smelly old man and Art/Arty rhymes with fart/farty.

Krazynights34 · 01/02/2020 21:03

Robin or Peter

june2007 · 01/02/2020 21:07

Yes all reasonable.
