Nevaeh

What do people think of this name? Not common in my area and I really like the meaning. I went to a medium and she told me my grandma said I'd be pregnant in the next few months and that it would be a "little princess". Everything she said about my past was so accurate and yesterday I found out that bub is actually a girl. We was so close and I wanted a name related to her, but her name alone is too old and dated to be used, and too long as a middle name ( I like one syllable names).

When I came across this I just fell in love, suggested it to family members and my mum said it's a "chav" nameSad OH doesn't like it either but think it's only because he's never heard it. My dad however is the same as me and loves it. Just wondering how it comes across to everyone else? Won't be offended, if it is that bad to everyone then I'll more than likely be put off and find another. Just curious!

Call her Tess or Tessa. Both lovely, nothing like Thea, and known but not common nowadays.

yayitsagirl · 14/06/2019 09:29

Ok not here to argue with people about the medium saying "little princess" as a way of telling me it was a girl. I know my daughter will grow up to be the same as other children, Jesus Christ.

Also understand that others aren't into mediums and stuff, but I am. So can we just leave that chat there because I'm only here to find out about the name, thanks Smile

Tess is what my grandma was known as. I do quite like this, just not keen on Theresa. Could Tess be used as a stand alone name? Also quite like Tessa.

Genuinely glad you've abandoned Neveah, dreadful name. Theresa/Tess is lovely

Adlehide · 14/06/2019 09:32

There is a Nevaeh in my daughters class. She certainly isn’t a Chav.
She is a really pretty, friendly, kind and sweet girl.
When I hear that name now I think of her. I know people on here are quick to say it’s a chavvy name, but so what? If you love it, go for it.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/06/2019 09:32

Op I'd go Tessa, nn Tess as she gets older

Neveah as middle name at most

GwenCooper81 · 14/06/2019 09:34

I'm sure Tess can be stand alone. I prefer Tessa it looks abit more 'finished'. Both are lovely. Did she have a middle name? Maiden name that can be incorporated?.

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 14/06/2019 09:34

It's a terrible name sorry. If you really like it why not go for Niamh?

yayitsagirl · 14/06/2019 09:37

Tessa is growing on me, I don't know why I didn't think of it. I do prefer it to Tess, and it's nice that it is still a different name but is still very similar to hers Smile my grandma didn't have a middle name!

TBF, she had a 50:50 chance though, didn't she.

I expect you also let slip verbal or non-verbal clues about wanting to get pregnant as well, so she picked up on that and rode with it. I expect somewhere else she mentioned a little boy, but your subconscious has filtered that out (and would have done vice versa had you had a son).

Pinkmouse6 · 14/06/2019 09:42

I’d never heard of it until I started using MN. It’s not a name I’ve come across IRL. It does seem quite ‘chavvy’ though, sorry.

NeegansWife · 14/06/2019 09:44

One of my considerations when naming my DC's was would I spend their entire childhood and would they spend the rest of their adult life having to spell their name out for people. If the answer was yes it was off the list.

lucymegan · 14/06/2019 09:44

I love Neveah and think it's a beautiful name. I wouldn't be put off it just because a bunch of strangers don't like it.

crustycrab · 14/06/2019 09:44

Tessa is lovely

yayitsagirl · 14/06/2019 09:48

Like I said shitbag, not here to talk about that. I know some people don't believe, I don't care, I do Grin

As soon as I saw it I prounounced it in my head as 'nevaaaaahhh', as in:
"I snogged that guy Kev from the office"
"You nevaaaaaaaahhh!!!"

So yeah. NO!

LaPufalina · 14/06/2019 09:48

I know an adult Tessa/Tess and she's a genuine ray of sunshine, good association with the name for me!

LIVIA999 · 14/06/2019 09:48

Tess and tessa are gorgeous. I have a friend called Tessa but we all call her tess. Also Theresa is lovely. My favourite saint is Saint Therese - she is was known as the little flower. If you look her up it's lovely.
You could go for something like that and call her tess, tessa, tessy for short.
My son has a long ' official ' name but we never call him that.

I love it.

Whoops75 · 14/06/2019 09:59

Tessa is beautiful

Congratulations

Heyha · 14/06/2019 10:00

Tessa/Tess is a very nice, not overly popular but not 'out there' either name and would go with all sorts of middle names (and surnames). You could go Theresa on her birth certificate and never actually use it but it sounds like Tess is a very good fit for honouring your grandma 🙂

yayitsagirl · 14/06/2019 10:02

Thanks everyone, Tessa is definitely one I'm going to put forward to OH when he's home 🥰

TillyTheTiger · 14/06/2019 10:05

Tessa is a lovely name- I'd go with that!

bridgetreilly · 14/06/2019 10:07

Neveah is not a word that has any meaning at all, so there's that. Writing the letters of the word in reverse order doesn't make a word, and it certainly doesn't make a word that means the same thing.

Plus I just think this is a really ugly word with an unpleasant sound that makes me think of a naevus.

ChimpyChops · 14/06/2019 10:08

I like Tessa, prefer Tess. Beautiful choice OP 💓
