We have an agreed boys name & we now finally have a shortlist for girls names (it’s been painful getting to this stage!!).... would love to know what you lot think.

If you hate a name please say why & don’t worry about being rude (unless you don’t know of course!)

Thank you lovelies

Martha
Juliet
Beatrice
Matilda
Rosa
Louisa

I love the name Juliet , I've only ever known one , and I'm 54 now, she was at high school but it was spelt Juliette, beautiful name

CocoDeMoll · 05/06/2019 19:18

I thought this was going to be an opinion on the name ‘Whispers’ Confused. Thank fuck and: Rosa is a lovely name

pilates · 05/06/2019 19:21

Rosa and Louisa are gorgeous
The rest are lovely except Juliet which sounds frumpy to my ears.

Predestined00 · 05/06/2019 19:22

Martha - sorry awful! It's frumpy
Juliet .. Feel this is dated, old lady
Beatrice ...hate this name, it sounds so ugly. Reminds me of beetroot
Matilda... Severe sounding, nothing pretty or nice about it.
Rosa...I like this. So much nicer than the above.
Louisa... I also like Louisa, will work well in Europe

mishgs · 05/06/2019 19:33

Rosa or Martha Smile

motortroll · 05/06/2019 19:36

Juliet is my absolute fave! It's top of my imaginary 4th baby list!

Penny4Thoughts · 05/06/2019 20:22

@predestined00 you made me laugh at beetroot Grin

I dont hate any I think they are all very pretty names!

I think I like Louisa the best just because its classic but you dont hear it often.
Matilda is lovely but very popular and so is Beatrice. I know two of each of those the same age as my son!
I do really like Martha and Juliet... but I think Louisa wins for me as it's just a bit more underused.

Galvantula · 05/06/2019 20:29

Martha - nice, name of a lovely lady i know.

Juliet - like it.
Beatrice- don't like the sound of it, also quite popular.
Matilda - there seem to be millions of these
Rosa - i quite like this
Louisa - not heard it used for a while, but don't dislike.

Smile

CloserIAm2Fine · 05/06/2019 20:34

They’re all nice, I don’t dislike any of them

Beatrice and Matilda are my favourites

TempsPerdu · 05/06/2019 20:35

Rosa and Juliet are both beautiful (and I prefer this spelling to the frillier Juliette). Could be Ettie for short rather than Jules or Julie. Martha and Matilda are fine, but Matilda in particular is incredibly popular at the moment and I think it will date quickly. Am meh about Beatrice and Louisa - both inoffensive but not inspiring imo.

userabcname · 05/06/2019 20:36

I like Juliet and Rosa best. Beatrice is very popular, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I know a lot of little Beatrices! Matilda and Louisa are both nice. Not keen on Martha.

WearItLikeArmour · 05/06/2019 20:41

Adore Martha. Easily my favourite.

Also love Matilda, and Julia as a variant of Juliet.

BunnyandBee · 05/06/2019 20:50

I am biased because I have a little Louisa. She is fab, and I haven't come across another one (and I meets lots of small children in my job).
I have the standard issue 80's middle name of Louise, but for some reason they feel very different to me.
Anyway I like all your other names too. Happy choosing Smile

MrsWilkinsonAthome · 05/06/2019 20:58

My Italian aunt is Rosa and she is one of the kindest people I know. So the name has a really positive association for me.

missmouse101 · 05/06/2019 21:02

I like them all except Beatrice and Matilda. Terrible old lady names!

ButterflyBitch · 05/06/2019 21:06

Martha-too old fashioned
Juliet-nice quite pretty
Beatrice-just no
Matilda-nice but quite popular I think?
Rosa-beautiful
Louisa-meh

BrainScience · 05/06/2019 21:10

Another one who thought you were going to call your dc Whispers. Disappointed by the perfectly lovely selection of names. Are you sure you can’t be tempted with Whispers or La-ah or something?

WhiteDust · 05/06/2019 21:12

Martha - LOVE it!
Juliet - Reminds me of Romeo and Juliet or Juliet Stephenson, not keen on shortened Julie
Beatrice - Nope, Royal. Can't help thinking of Fergie & Awful Andrew
Matilda - Love it!
Rosa - Love it!
Louisa - Meh.

Favourites are Martha, Rosa and Matilda in that order.

Ivestoppedreadingthenews · 05/06/2019 21:17

I don’t like Martha - bible story where she slaves away in the kitchen and is generally a kill joy.

FionasWineShow · 05/06/2019 21:18

Martha - Worthy servant

Martha is nice, very middle class

with the exception of Martha which says dreary, dowdy housemaid to me

Grin

Quite different perceptions, but I have to say, I agree with 1 and 3.

Martha is two letters away from Bertha, and - to me - has a very similar feel.

I like Rosa and Louisa best from your list, and also Sadie.

MealyPotatoes · 05/06/2019 21:19

Louisa is lovely.

meuh · 05/06/2019 21:24

I like all of them except Beatrice which I'm not keen on, although the nickname Bea is sweet. My favourite is probably Martha.

homemadegin · 05/06/2019 21:36

@CocoDeMoll me to!! I had just been reading the harrow thread.

I like them all OP. In our case we had a list, a final list, and a name. Dh announced it to midwifes, we both looked at each other and changed our minds, then took two days to pick a name not on the list because she didn't look like any of themGrin

ilovepixie · 05/06/2019 22:15

Love Martha because that was my granny's name. Love Juliet too.
