So...

baby girl is due in July. Hubby is wanting a GOT inspired name. Our shortlist so far.

Khaleesi
Shireen
Lyanna
Melisandre
Sansa
Cersei
Olenna

We're not keen on Arya or Catelyn so please don't suggest these as alternatives

What would you choose?

Are you not bothered about connotations? Cersei and Khaleesi weren't the nicest of people. Shireen was burned alive. Melisande burned her. Olenna was funny as fuck, still brutal though (although arguably justified!)

Bezalelle · 23/05/2019 23:36

Don't do it! So cringeworthy.

Chickenitalia · 23/05/2019 23:36

Please don’t. Really, no. HTH.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/05/2019 23:37

Why isn't Brienne on the list? Nice name, awesome character...

Can't imagine naming my baby after some of those characters.

Blondie787 · 23/05/2019 23:41

So would you choose Sansa then, Dlijlr?

Hmm, not sure about Brienne. I wasn't keen n the character

OP posts:
Fridasrage · 23/05/2019 23:43

Brienne and Olenna are both nice names and great strong female characters.. but you know, don't do this.

IHeartKingThistle · 23/05/2019 23:43

But Cersei, she's fine? ShockConfusedHmm

InterchangeableEmma · 23/05/2019 23:44

If you really must GoT her then name her after GRR Martin. Georgina, Georgiana, Georgia or one of the other variations.

Hungrymamabear · 23/05/2019 23:45

Honestly, when I was expecting my 1st DC (almost 4years ago) if we had a girl we chose the name kalise. Because we thought khaleesi was a bit much so we woouldve just changed it. We had a boy and his name wasn't remotely GOT inspired!

Coolcoolcoolcoolcool · 23/05/2019 23:49

Is this thread designed to prove to your husband it's a bad idea?

Don't do it. But if you are really inspired by it choose a name of a book character that doesn't appear in the show then they'll not have to deal with 'oh like that girl who was raped and tortured in that TV show I liked 20 years ago'.

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 23/05/2019 23:52

No, no, no, no. Just don’t. Please. For your unborn child's sake.

But if you must, then go for broke and use Ygritte.

InterchangeableEmma · 23/05/2019 23:54

This'll help with what coolcooletc suggests awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/List_of_characters

Better still, call her Emma or Susan or Martha or something non-themey.

Tubastraprash · 23/05/2019 23:54

Why oh why would you do this to your child? Imagine her applying for a job in the future with the name Khaleesi Shock

Jammiebammie · 23/05/2019 23:55

Winter. Then when you go into Labour you can text everyone “winter is coming” Hmm

I wouldn’t name after a specific character, you could perhaps take some inspiration from the books or even series if you want, but I don’t think it’s a good idea personally.

MightyAtlantic · 23/05/2019 23:56

I'd choose a new husband to be honest.

Proseccofuelled · 24/05/2019 00:18

Poor child - then again I named my 1st born Sex and the city

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/05/2019 00:26

Jammie GrinGrin

How about Talisa OP? Less obvious and the woman was a healer

99bb · 24/05/2019 02:30

@Proseccofuelled

God, I hope that sentence is missing a word

MyOtherProfile · 24/05/2019 02:35

@Proseccofuelled do you call her Sex for short? Grin

Oaktree1952 · 24/05/2019 02:37

What about Alayne?

It's in the books (Sansa uses it as an alias), unusual but no connotations with killing etc.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 24/05/2019 05:12

Is this serious? I'm not sure whether I'm falling for it if I reply ... But on the off-chance that it's not a joke ... Please don't do this. It's really not fair to your unborn child. They will have one of two situations - spend their whole life having annoying jokes made about Game of Thrones or (possibly worse), Game of Thrones will stop being popular and your child will just have a weird made-up sounding name. It wouldn't look good on job applications and it would probably hinder your child's chances in life - I know it shouldn't, but people are judgemental.

blancheduboiss · 24/05/2019 05:18

OP, I’m a huge fan and find temptation there also ... but some of the names are just too obnoxiously well known. What about Elia (Elia Martell) or Lyanna (Lyanna Stark). Less well known but still GOT and lovely.

myrtleWilson · 24/05/2019 05:51

Weren't your twin girls due at the end of March OP?

RitaTheBeater · 24/05/2019 05:52

Another GOT names thread!

SpareASquare · 24/05/2019 06:06

Good one OP. Nearly had me going until I realised NOONE could be that stooopid. Grin
