So...

baby girl is due in July. Hubby is wanting a GOT inspired name. Our shortlist so far.

Khaleesi
Shireen
Lyanna
Melisandre
Sansa
Cersei
Olenna

We're not keen on Arya or Catelyn so please don't suggest these as alternatives

What would you choose?

Sam(antha)

Marjorie

Incidentally I wanted to call ds Winter. It’s a name that popped up in dhs family a few times.

aposterhasnoname · 24/05/2019 06:51

Given up on Claudia and Emmie then OP?

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 24/05/2019 06:52

Imagine if in years to come in the even more “woke” 2030s GoT is denounced as a bag of gratuitous sex, incest, violence and abuse of dragons and is wiped from the annals of history?

At least the 9000 Aryas now kicking about will have one another for company. Call DD something like Oleanna, Lyanna or Khaleesi and it’ll be naff as hell.

Call her Cersei and she may as well have a target painted on her for the playground bullies, especially if she ends up with a brother 😬

ExtraPineappleExtraHam · 24/05/2019 07:37

I named both my kids after characters from Peaky Blinders so I have no reason to say don't do it, however, as the names are quintessential English names there is no reason they or anyone else needs to ever know the origin. With your name choices, it's pretty obvious, but if that's what makes you happy then do it.

ExtraPineappleExtraHam · 24/05/2019 07:40

If DD was born now, her name would be Lyanna for sure Grin

IntoValhalla · 24/05/2019 07:44

I’m resisting the urge to post the meme of Robert Baratheon berating Lancel Lannister for his name Grin

must resist....

Proseccofuelled · 24/05/2019 07:52

@MyOtherProfile don’t be silly that would be rude. She goes by Sexxx.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/05/2019 07:53

It will really date quickly.

TellerTuesday4EVA · 24/05/2019 07:54

DD has a name on your list - can't say which as too outing - not Khaleesi that's god awful!!

In our defence DH read the books long before the tv series came about & it was chosen from there.

People have been naming children on characters etc for ages, it's not a big deal. I went to school with a Clayton (Dallas).

The name suits DD to tea and its one that fits with all ages, little girl, teenager, adult, OAP. Do people ask if it's from GOT? Sure, we say yeah, smile & that's it... whether those people go away thinking we're cringeworthy, who knows? Can't say I really care.

I don't regret her name one iota, in hindsight would I still of chosen it knowing the popularity of the tv show that would come? Maybe not but it is what it is.

lotusbell · 24/05/2019 07:55

Osha, Meera, Myrcella, Yara, Shae, Tyene or erm, Gilly?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 24/05/2019 07:56

Did the dragons have names? I was wondering this the other day (for some reason).

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 24/05/2019 07:56

How can anyone be not keen on Brienne as a character but think Cersei's fine? Are you hoping to give birth to a baby that will grow up to be manipulative and cruel (And what her own brother?)

Brienne is awesome.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 24/05/2019 07:57

What? Shag!!

TixieLix · 24/05/2019 08:12

Strangest pregnancy ever. In January you said you were two months away from having twin girls. By end March you were asking opinions on boy and girl names. Now you're expecting a girl in July. Do you have any idea what's going on with your body OP?

EugenesAxe · 24/05/2019 08:15

This has got to be a joke.

MyOtherProfile · 24/05/2019 08:47

@Proseccofuelled Grin

IntoValhalla · 24/05/2019 09:02

LordProf
The dragons could provide some pretty epic names for a boy I guess!
Although little Rhaegal or Viseryon might raise a few eyebrows at toddler group Grin

BertrandRussell · 24/05/2019 09:04

Shireen is a name outside GOT, so go for that.

Proseccofuelled · 24/05/2019 09:12

@TrixieLix I feel sorry for the poor OP if she’s given birth to twin girls, a boy somewhere along the line & is pregnant again 1 month later. No wonder she needs all the names she can get ! Grin

Astronica · 24/05/2019 09:26

Olenna or Melisandre

GraceMarks · 24/05/2019 20:17

Fekko the dragons were called Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion. All named after Dany's male family members, but perhaps she should have tried out their names with their surname ("the dragon") first. I mean, Drogon the dragon? Really?

OP, assuming you're on a massive piss-take here, how about:
Asha (Yara's name in the books)
Myranda (batshit psycho, but a pretty name, and the GoT connection isn't obvious)
Gilly
Missandei
Joanna (the Lannister siblings' mum)
Ellaria
Elia
Margaery
Arianne (one of the Martells in the books)

IceCreamSoda99 · 25/05/2019 19:44

"The name Sansa is a girl's name of Sanskrit origin meaning "praise, charm"."

MyOtherProfile · 25/05/2019 20:41

That may be true but everyone will still always associate it with the GoT girl.

MooseBreath · 25/05/2019 20:55

I'd go with Margaery or Sansa. Both strong, clever and beautiful until the end!
