Baby boy due today and still don't have a name decided. Don't even have a shortlist to "see what he looks like". Came across this name last night and I kinda love it but don't know if I'm having a moment of madness because I don't love anything else and I'm climbing the walls waiting for him to arrive.

What are your thoughts?? Have a toddler called Eli, if that helps.

Why no go for for Kit , Reynard or Tod which are all old English terms for Fox

MondeoFan · 05/05/2019 22:13

I like it, it's different without being too out there. Imagine if he's really handsome too?

blackcoffeeinbed · 05/05/2019 22:22

Il be honest I've never heard of using Fox as a name before, but I love it! I'd definitely of used it if I had another boy and had heard it. I am a fan of quirky names though, I wanted to name this one girl or boy 'Baby'. Everyone thought I was mad and OH shot me straight down but I think it's adorable.

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 06/05/2019 12:20

I really like it but I think I'm in the minority!

pineapplepatty · 06/05/2019 13:12

Prefer Wolfie.

Babyfoal · 06/05/2019 13:32

No no no

LarryGreysonsDoor · 06/05/2019 13:37

I love Fox but think it’s too different from Eli. I like the idea of doing a 3 letter name like Eli
What about: Max, Rex, Noa, Sal, Ted, Leo, Jax, Jud, Kai, Ace, Axl, Lux, Jed, Koa, Kit

RickOShay · 06/05/2019 20:40

I like it. Very cool.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 06/05/2019 20:42

I really like it. Theres a teenage Fox in our village who has the most gorgeous dark red hair. I assumed his parents called him Fox because of his hair colour but it turns out that his mum's maiden name was Fox.

If you like it go for it

yuiojl · 06/05/2019 23:32

I named my DS Fox! I also put up a similar post to yours OP a few months back :)

We took a long time to decide on whether to go for Fox but in the end just went for it as we both loved it!

I agree with some other posters saying it's a very trendy name at the moment, foxes are very of the moment. But, it can sound really classic too!

Just a few things that may help you... :)

  • Even though Fox is really popular at the moment - I'm sure you've done your homework and looked up the stats - it is still quite bizarre and unheard of as a name to a lot of people. So just prepare yourself for people's reactions, if you can be unashamedly confident about saying 'his name is Fox' while people look at your in horror then I'd say go for it :) because it will happen! It's happened to us at the doctors surgery, baby group, random strangers in the supermarket... sometimes when you're tired and having an off day it's harder to keep your head held high when someone smirks or recoils in horror! Haha.
  • I've also found some people just don't use my DS's name as they find it hard to use. Which did upset me slightly at first as sometimes they refer to him as 'the baby' rather than use 'Fox' but it bothers me less and less every day.
  • It also sounds a bit like an expletive so consider that! When DP says for f**cks say in a moment of annoyance it does always remind me of Fox ha.
  • Foxy is the natural nickname, and you'll more than likely use it :)

If you love it go with Fox! It's a great name.

yuiojl · 07/05/2019 10:46

@NannyPear oh and congratulations!

NannyPear · 07/05/2019 10:54

@Yuiojl thank you! And thank you for the name advice, you have good taste ;)

DS2 arrived last night, still not decided on a name so Fox is still a possibility...

Ah congrats!

I love it! I really do, and @Greenyogagirl I also have a Bear :)

Names are marmite and in all honestly why would you want to please everyone? If you love it then go for it!

floraloctopus · 07/05/2019 11:01

It's a bit lot out there TBH. Don't do it if your surname is Hunt.

DerelictWreck · 07/05/2019 11:05

I'm reading a book at the moment with a Fox in (not a children's book) and it really suits the character. But every introduction is followed by some variation of 'why on earth did your mother name you Fox'..

spiderlight · 07/05/2019 11:05

Congratulations! What about Felix? (Although I've spotted as I typed it that it has Eli in the middle of it!)

Sagradafamiliar · 07/05/2019 11:17

Fox is great. Also on my list were: Casper, Felix, Saxon, Nate, Jonah and Seth

Sagradafamiliar · 07/05/2019 11:17

Alex also

Sagradafamiliar · 07/05/2019 11:18

I missed your update- congratulations!

Deadringer · 07/05/2019 11:28

Congrats! No way to fox, what about Zack or even Pax if you like the x sound?

DonkeyHohtay · 07/05/2019 11:51

In 2018 there were also 2 babies born in Scotland called:

Alexis, Atholl, Clarke, Emmett, Ewen, Gavin, Gideon, Greg, Monty, Morris, Moses, Orlando, Simeon, Torrin and Watson.

All of those are better than Fox.

Congratulations on your new arrival.

Skyejuly · 07/05/2019 11:55

I don't like the name Fox at all. Sorry!

JenSFP · 07/05/2019 12:06

Love Fox. What a great name. What have you decided on?
