We were pretty set on the name Evie but I’ve just stumbled across the top 100 list for England & it’s number 13. 🤦🏼‍♀️

So with 4 weeks left, im looking for something new. We like classic names but not too old ‘ladyish’ something which still sounds fresh today.

Please help!!

If you like it just use it.

UCOinanOCG · 24/04/2019 17:12

TBH i have never met an Evie but I have met a Maisie, Millie and Thea. Sadie is my dogs name!

NotMyUsualTopBilling · 24/04/2019 17:18

Use it if you like it.

My DS' name was in the Top 10 when he was born and I've met 5 his age.

ilovecheese1 · 24/04/2019 17:21

I still love the name, I just don’t want her to be 1 of 100 when she goes to school plus names sort of lose their appeal when they’re over used don’t they? I only know one Evie myself right now, she’s 2.

Look at it in relative terms. Even with the no 1 name (I think that’s like 1/60 girls in 2017), she’d still be relatively unlikely to have another one in the same class. There are so many more names used now, I don’t think “too popular” is as much of a worry now

VeniVidiViciTwice · 24/04/2019 17:24

My daughter's name is in the top 100 but nearer the bottom of the list and have since come across quite a few to say it isn't that popular. I think of you like it I would use it.

Rtmhwales · 24/04/2019 17:24

I knew five 4-6 year old Evie's when I liked in the UK last year but by the time yours goes to school it might have petered out in popularity so use it if you like.

Clownfish123 · 24/04/2019 17:25

I think it's way overdone. When you combine it with all the Eva's, Ava's, Eve's and Evelyn's, its just everywhere!

I wanted to call ds2 Oliver, but we have a very very common surname, and Oliver was the most popular name by a LONG way when he was born, so didn't.

He's now 4, and he's never had an Oliver in any of his nursery/pre school classes. We've not met many Oliver's of his age at all.

The most popular boys name in ds1 year is Finley (of various spellings), I don't recall that being top 20 at the time.

If you love the name, just do it!!

E80C · 24/04/2019 17:30

My child’s name was about 65 in the top 100 but there still ended up being two of them in nursery.
I’d go for Evie if that’s what you like.

Calixtine · 24/04/2019 17:42

Evie is sweet, but I prefer Eve (more classic/mature) or Edie (more unusual).

ilovecheese1 · 24/04/2019 17:56

I do really like eve too @Calixtine. Maybe eve on the bc & Evie as a nn would solve all of this!

Do you know any other new mums in your area? Ask them what names have been cropping up when they go to baby or toddler groups. That's usually a good indication of if the top 10 popular names is relevant to where you live. I have come across a host of Evie's/Jaxson's/Isla's where I am.

Chilledout11 · 24/04/2019 18:27

Evelyn and nn Evie

If you like it just go for it though. Every other girl born around here is Sadie Ava or Grace. Haven't heard too many called Evie.

dannydyerismydad · 24/04/2019 18:29

Evangeline is beautiful and can be shortened to Evie

NaBiAgOl · 24/04/2019 18:34

I don't know of any Sadies, even though it's lovely. I would pick Sadie or Susie.
Evie is very popular and has been for over 15 years really, still beautiful obviously. Grace is such a middle name, I don't know many who have it as their first name so I would find it refreshing as a first name.

Genevieve Grace could be Gigi, Vivi, Eve, Evie
Grace Evelyn

Ipanema01 · 24/04/2019 20:07

How about Edie?

csam · 24/04/2019 20:21

My lg is 3.5 and I've met a few Evie's.
Love Elsie and not met any yet Smile

Lottie35 · 24/04/2019 20:34

I totally understand. However as you can guess my name is Charlotte. It was less common when I was born but consistently been in the top 10 for twenty years (something like that). I don't come across lots of charlottes all the time so even with a very common name it doesn't feel overwhelming or too popular.

I wouldn't worry about it x

Very outing, but my DD is called Amelia Isabelle.

In her birth year amelia was no2 and isabella (close enough) was no6. Think they're still at the same positions now.

I have never met another amelia or an isabelle/isabella. Closest is an Emilia.

4000 odd kids were called Amelia in 2016 - that's still not many when you think how many babies must have been born.

LordPickle · 24/04/2019 20:49

What about Eleanor? I absolutely love that name but I've got a son and I'm not having more kids.
