We were pretty set on the name Evie but I’ve just stumbled across the top 100 list for England & it’s number 13. 🤦🏼‍♀️

So with 4 weeks left, im looking for something new. We like classic names but not too old ‘ladyish’ something which still sounds fresh today.

Please help!!

We like Eve but her middle name will be Jean after her nan who unfortunately passed away days before we found out we were expecting her & I think Evie Jean sounds better than Eve Jean!?

I only know one Evie and she’s a teenager! Although my boy has a name that was #1 the year he was born (and many other years) and I don’t actually know any others his age and only a handful altogether

PippilottaLongstocking · 25/04/2019 21:07

Evie Jean definitely flows better than Eve Jean, I love it!

Bumblebeesmum · 25/04/2019 21:08

I wouldn’t base Eve or Evie on which sit with the middle name better - both are fine I’d choose the first name you love most

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 25/04/2019 21:11

Evie is lovely, but if you are worried about there being too many, why not go for Evangeline, then she has the option of Evie as a nickname amongst others as she grows? Evangeline is one of my favourite names but was vetoed by DH...

girlsname · 26/04/2019 03:58

I know several little Evie's, more so than any other name, I'm shocked it isn't in the top 5 but then these things are very area specific. Then again, Evelyn (number 22) is routinely shortened to Evie so if you added those two it would be number three.

What about Edie instead?

Kokeshi123 · 26/04/2019 04:09

The problem with "Evie is too popular so why not use Evelyn, Evangeline or Edie" is that lots of other parents will be doing the same thing, so it will still be popular, or at least will sound really similar to a lot of other popular names.

Nothing wrong with having a popular name! But if you DON'T want a super popular name, how about:

Susannah
Laura
Estelle
Maria
Fenella
Lucy
Helen
Rosalind
Lorna
Naomi

Or look on the "darkgreener" site and look for some names that aren't too common right now.

That’s a good point. I know 5 Evies and 2 of them are Evelyn on the BC and 2 are Evangeline.

flumpybear · 26/04/2019 04:38

Avery with nn/shortened to Evie or Avie

Pigsinduvets · 26/04/2019 05:10

There are several Evies in both DCs classes. It seems very popular thing to give girls 2 names often hyphenated. For example, Evie-Mae, Lily-May, Ella-Grace.
I like Jean.

MercyBodle · 26/04/2019 06:39

I think Sylvie is a lovely and fresh and much less used name similar to Evie.

NewMum19344567 · 26/04/2019 06:46

Evangeline is a lovely name I think and you could still call her evie, know quite a few Evie's but there is nothing wrong with a common beautiful name

Tiramisu1 · 26/04/2019 06:53

All of you saying 'there's nothing wrong with a popular name' should take a look at the other thread asking about whether we like our own names!

Kungfupanda67 · 26/04/2019 06:57

I only know 1 Evie (and I’ve got 3 kids at school and nurseries so I know quite a lot of kids).
My son’s called Finley which was in the 30s the year he was born and there’s 4 in his year at school.
If you like the name, use it x

OhTheRoses · 26/04/2019 07:05

I had a lovely great aunt Evelyn op. Always known as Evie (she very naughty and a little delightfully wicked). Do the family names help?

Evelyn Helena
Alice Marina

Their mother and her sisters
Eleanor, Isabel and Grace

What comes round goes round.
FWIW we loved Imogen but went for something less unusual (dd grown up now). There were three Imogen's in her class out of 12 girls.

Go with what you like.

Rafabella8 · 26/04/2019 07:09

Evie Jean is lovely OP.

bugeyedbarber · 26/04/2019 11:08

I think a lot of the top 100 popularity is regional which then ladders up to the total but it can vary by region. London and South East will be different from Midlands for example.

This explains why some people on this board may know a number of children with name X and others don't but know a high number with name Y

My cousin grew up with an extremely popular name & has now called her child Evie. Has a classic & v popular middle name too. Evie suits her & couldn't imagine her having any other name plus my cousin isn't phased by Evie having lots of friends called Evie

Lavenderblues · 26/04/2019 12:00

I think it's worth considering the child's viewpoint too. Quite a few posters on other threads have mentioned that they dislike having a very popular name.

Pepperwand · 28/04/2019 17:13

Personally I'd go Eve or Eva as I think Evie is a bit cutesy and the other variants suit an adult woman better (but that's only my personal view!) You hardly ever say a full name including first and middle names so I wouldn't let that dictate your first name choice.

KindnessCrusader · 28/04/2019 17:19

Very outing, but my DD is called Amelia Isabelle.

Literally one of the absolute least outing things I've read on here Confused

Mosaic123 · 28/04/2019 17:21

Have you thought about Eva?

Mayjane5 · 28/04/2019 17:26

We have an Evelyn shortened to Evie, I’m presuming even though it’s popular how many Evie’s would you really have in one class of 30 kids? Maybe 2 at the most? If you like it then go for it. The other name I liked which is similar was Lilian shortened to Lily

stellarfox · 30/04/2019 07:58

I can’t see Evie suiting a grown up! I’d use Evelina, Evelyn or Eve on the birth certificate. I prefer Edith nn Edie as at least it’s a bit less common! I know 3 Evie’s

Lara53 · 30/04/2019 19:54

Adeline (Addie)
Clovie
