Do you like your name?

As I'm naming a baby girl, I'm wondering what you like/don't like about your name. (You don't have to say what it is.)

I have always liked my name. I like that it's feminine but not too girly or frilly. There's lots of them my age, but that's never bothered me - and there's a few different nicknames anyway. I never felt my name was boring or shared by too many people, although it was popular. I always liked that there were lots of famous women in history with the same name.

I didn't like that my siblings had a story to their names, and mine was a name my parents "just liked"!

So what do you like/dislike about your own name?

Have hated my name all my adult life. One of the most popular 70s names and just sounds likes a child’s name not an adult’s. I wish I had had the sense/ courage to go by my middle name but too late now as I’m nearly 50.

Mine is monosyllabic, which is shit with our monosyllabic surname. Especially as both sisters got unusual 3 syllable names, and there were always at least 3 other girls with my name in my year at school.

And I got the worst middle name.

I like mine. It is veryour similar to another name that was popular for girls of my age. It would often get misheard as the popular name when I was growing up. I think my less popular name is far prettier though. And it's aged better.

I dont like my name. Ive always thought of it as a bit alkward to say and hate telling people my name. BUT ive never had any negative comments about my name. Have only met 3 in my life I think.. so its certainly not popular but also not 'weird'.. my husband thinks im weird for disliking it. I dont know why.. its just not a name i like. Too uncommon i guess.. my middle name i love. Also not overly common. Slightly Italian sounding and my heritage lies in Italy so I kind of like that. But this is a name that does not seem to have the same level of love as I have for it.. maybe I just feel differently about names than most other people!! Lol!

My name is Amanda, which is pretty dated now but everyone can pronounce it and everyone can spell it so I don’t really mind it. It was really popular the year I was born but, apart from one year when there was 3 of us in the class, I’ve only met a handful of others. I don’t like when people assume they can call me Mandy though (nothing against it but I’ve never been called it so it’s like calling me Sarah or something).

I like my name. I’ve only ever met another one my age but went through a stage when I taught a fair few who were obviously a lot younger than me. Conversely none of them spelt it how I spelt it.
I think it sounds nice and American which I like but no would put other people off and I think MN would hate it.
It’s Kelsey and I usually get Kels from the majority of people. Never my mum though who hates shortening. I’m starting to think I am growing out of it though and don’t know how I feel about being a 70 year old Kelsey.

My name is Stacie.

I don't mind it, it's my name so I guess I'm used to it and it belongs to me so I like it in that sense.

As you've probably guessed I'm an 80's child and all the other Stacy/Stacey/Staci's I know are around my age so I do think it's quite dated and certainly 'of it's time'.

I like that my name is pretty universal (as in known in most European languages). Short and easy to spell. And fairly elegant and class nuetral (common in all classes and features in royal families) but not Christian. Reading this back to myself I think I may have really screwed over my children who have really obscure names

That said my name isn’t really a little girl name and doesn’t lend itself to nicknames so it must have been weird when I was a child.

Yes I really like my name. I was the only one in my school growing up, although lived in Wales so not a massive school but it's still not overly common.

I chose I name I loved for my DS, I also believed it not to be that well used, sadly I am finding alot of children a few years before him have that name, so he may hate it !!!

I love my name now but growing up i hated it (Irish) and no one could ever spell it or pronounce it !
