Sounds like a name for a Sylvanjan Family. Which is my favourite genre of name, so I love it Grin

GabrielleNelson · 22/04/2019 16:52

Sorrel is nothing like Soreen, which is the malt loaf. Soreen sounds like a name from Game of Thrones but Sorrel doesn't.

SleepWarrior, are you thinking of sorrow? I can see how you might, I suppose.

SleepWarrior · 22/04/2019 16:59

Probably because of the close sounds to words like sorrow, sorry, although I'm not muddling the words up per se.

grincheux · 22/04/2019 17:36

I know a couple of 30-something Sorrells but personally think it's an ugly noise, not a nice name.

BoomZahramay · 22/04/2019 17:39

Laurel?

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2019 17:41

It makes me think of a bitter herb, sorrow & saying sorry - so it's a no from me.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 22/04/2019 17:43

Not usually my style (not keen on Wren or Willow, for example), but for some reason I really like it.

GummyGoddess · 22/04/2019 17:45

It sounds very close to sorrow, so I wouldn't use it for that reason. Perhaps depends on your pronunciation of the last half of the name? I would say saw-R-L. If you said saw-ALL or saw-RAL then it doesn't sound as similar.

Crocodilesoup · 22/04/2019 17:46

Well it could be shortened to “El” or Ellie even, you wouldn’t have to say “sor”

DrMadelineMaxwell · 22/04/2019 17:47

Lovely. I taught a Sorrel once, but about 10 years ago.

Hitheresunrays · 22/04/2019 17:59

Never heard before but I actually really like it Smile

Shadow1234 · 22/04/2019 18:09

Really like it

Calixtine · 22/04/2019 18:55

I think it’s absolutely lovely. Really distinctive but not too in-your-face about it.

AdaColeman · 22/04/2019 19:03

it's a bit too flower power hippy for my taste, like Saffron and Amber.

MikeUniformMike · 22/04/2019 19:59

Not keen, sorry.
It's a weed.

Bumblebeesmum · 22/04/2019 20:05

Is it Malt loaf or did I imagine that?

KawaiiKitt · 22/04/2019 20:05

Sounds like "Sorrow" to me personally.
I knew a lovely person with the name, though.

snowflakeeel · 22/04/2019 20:15

`Sorrel is a beautiful name. My husband tries to get us to eat it on walks.

thethoughtfox · 22/04/2019 20:52

Ballet Shoes! Yes. It is beautiful.

Moondancer73 · 22/04/2019 21:21

I think it's beautiful.

MyNewBearTotoro · 22/04/2019 21:24

I love it.

Redact · 22/04/2019 21:33

It's a lovely name. A friend of a friend is named Sorrel, it really suits her.

afterashowerr · 22/04/2019 22:40

I like nature names, but not keen it sounds like a sad name, too much like sorry.

Sophronia · 23/04/2019 00:11

Sounds like a name for a pony.

Tavannach · 23/04/2019 02:31

Love it.
The Noel Coward play Hay Fever has a character called Sorel. Phoebe Waller-Bridge played the part in the 2012 revival.
