What do you think of Percy?

What’s slightly weird is I the reason I ended up on this page to ask what boys name would go with Percy as I’m expecting another boy and this thread was at the very top!

3ChangingForNow · 15/04/2019 21:46

Love it. It was on my list.

Hippopotas · 15/04/2019 21:46

Reminds me of Percy in Blackadder

GrassIsntGreener · 15/04/2019 21:50

It was on our list - some very very rude replies here. NSPCC? Honestly. Hmm

birdgal4848 · 15/04/2019 21:51

First thing I thought of was pig. Sorry.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/04/2019 21:54

I think it's a lovely name. I quite clearly have no taste, according to the MN jury... I can cope.

weekfour · 15/04/2019 21:58

I asked this about two years ago. As it happens, I ended up with a Margot.
I think Percy is a fab name. People seemed overly preoccupied with pointing Percy at porcelain. I've only ever heard it on Mumsnet!

HopeOverAnythingElse · 15/04/2019 22:01

Percy is one of those names that makes me think 'if you like it so much, why doesn't the OP/OP's partner change their name to it'.

It's not nice. If it was there'd be loads of them about.

Moominfan · 15/04/2019 22:07

I love it. Plenty of Archie's, Freddie's ect. It's timeless and cute

stellarfox · 15/04/2019 22:11

@Lelly0503 What a coincidence! I think associations are quite a big influence on how people feel about names so the more little Percy’s there are around the more people will like it!

None of the associations raised have put me off but it’s good to hear there isn’t anything awful (imo anyway Wink)

Who ever fancied a Percy? It's a very wet name

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 15/04/2019 22:15

I like it!

Lelly what about Jasper?

RoseMartha · 15/04/2019 22:17

No

SweetAsSpice · 15/04/2019 22:20

The park keeper. Book.

As a nickname for Perseus though...

Lelly0503 · 15/04/2019 22:45

@stellarfox definitely! I actually like the park keeper associations as I used to read those books when I was a child and we’ve bought them for him to read too! & he has a few of the Percy train toys too. The Percy at the porcelain thing my mum told me about but nobody else I spoke too had heard of that saying before. Thing is once the baby is born and named, nobody will say anything nasty about baby even if they think it!

@bernards I like Jasper! Though we did used to have a family cat with that name haha

tocotoucan · 15/04/2019 22:47

I love it.

Whoops75 · 15/04/2019 22:50

Not a fan

mynameisMrG · 15/04/2019 22:56

Love it, was my first choice but DH said no. I haven’t let it go completely though

Silvanna · 15/04/2019 22:57

If you like, go for it x

pictish · 15/04/2019 23:01

Immediately thought of the park keeper as well.
I’d have to say no, if you’re asking.

Sophronia · 15/04/2019 23:48

I like it

Pompello · 16/04/2019 00:06

To be frank, I think it's as bad as it gets. Weak, wet, and insipid.

bloated1977 · 16/04/2019 00:16

It's horrific!! Percy from coronation St, Percy Pig, Percy the park keeper. Simply dreadful...lets hope you're having a girl.

BackforGood · 16/04/2019 00:35

No. I wouldn't want the 'pointing Percy at the porcelain' association to EVER be an option for teasing my little boy. Or teenager. Or young adult, tbh.

There are SO many names in the world, even if you think it is a slim chance of it happening, I just wouldn't do that to my ds.

FunkySnidge · 16/04/2019 00:38

Love it, my cat is called Percy and he is a gentleman.
