I've been trying to upload a photo of our gorgeous 17hr old dd and have failed miserably. We had chosen the name Dinah and I'd stupidly thought she'd look like my other 2 even though she's got a different dad. First thing dh said to me after she was born was that she certainly doesnt look like a Dinah and I agree. Nothing seems to suit her. Dh has started calling her Beryl...please suggest something else before it sticks! My other DC are Joseph and Susannah. Thank you.

I'd pick Tasmin or Tazmin over Tamsin foe the same reasons. Would Diana fit? I think Diana and Dinah are both quite grown up though so perhaps that's what's putting you off? Can you have a nickname maybe and still go for Dinah? Or what about Dena (Dean-a) or De-Anna (spelling I don't know on this one?!)

How about something different entirely like Sorrel, Hebe, Willow, Helen, etc?!

mathanxiety · 10/04/2019 06:47

Congratulations Cake

So sorry you are not going to name her Dinah. It's a fantastic name but I understand how you feel.

It's a tough one to use as a middle name though...

How about:
Eveline
Rosemary
Persephone
Ivy
Esme
Katherine
Abigail
Grace
Phoebe
Zoe
Rosalie
Xanthe
Isobel
Emmeline
Christabel
Lillian
Penelope
Margot
Jessamine

Love Cecily and Caroline

Joseph, Susannah and Imogen?
Joseph, Susannah and Elizabeth?
Joseph, Susannah and Victoria?

YodelAreCompletelyShit · 10/04/2019 09:53

Why can't the first name end in an 'a' sound? It's not like two vowels running together.

I love Susannah. How many syllables is the surname?

finallychangedmyusername · 10/04/2019 12:19

Congrats! I really love Lucy Dinah. Joseph, Susannah and Lucy.

Else seconding Felicity Dinah
OR

My babies have all been baby to me for months. I don’t think a baby ever looks like a name- they’re just teeny little squishy things not really entirely human yet. I’d call them all squish or baba and people should get to choose their names at 5/6 months.

EleanorOalike · 10/04/2019 14:10

Briony? What kind of vibe are you getting from her? Anecdotally, I think this happens a lot!

Shadow1234 · 10/04/2019 14:21

What about ...

Isobel (Izzy)
Nancy
Lauren
Ruby
Erin
Lucy
Ivy
Elsie
Jasmine
Chloe
Hailey
Saffron
Grace

Your older childrens names are lovely op!

I agree Jemima Dinah doesn't work. Maybe some other names ending in A wouldn't be so bad, but Y or a solid ending might be better. Not keen on Tammy but that's just personal pref, it would work.

Did you have any other names you discarded along the way?

Naomi
Verity
Helen
Artemis
Audrey
Agnes
Heidi
Olive
Francesca
Genevieve
Caroline
Eleanor

NutMeghan · 10/04/2019 21:11

I would give it some time. Dinah is a lovely name and she could grow into it.

Otherwise perhaps you would also like

Judith
Martha
Julia
Mariah
Eliza
Leah

DarlingLittleBabyName · 10/04/2019 21:13

trust me- she will grow into the name as she ages and then you won’t be able to imagine her as anything other than a Dinah! x

Tillygetsit · 10/04/2019 22:33

Thank you all so very much. First chance I've had to look at MN what with my md and dhs df popping in. We cant...for various reasons...use Caroline Nancy Olive Audrey or Leah. She's a pudgy very fair skinned baby with wispy ginger hair...my other 2 were much darker. I just dont see a Dinah as fair somehow. Dh suggested we dont use Dinah at all in case we have another daughter or dog 🙄😂he's not very tactful! Ds (7) suggested Marmalade which sort of suits her 😂 our surname has 2 syllables and begins with J. Cam you think of any names with a marmalade vibe?!

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 10/04/2019 22:47

Lucy (proposed by a pp) seems a good name for a fairer baby - it means light. Would be lovely with Joseph and Susannah.

Clementine for the marmalade vibe Wink though if she ends up with red hair it would be too much. My reddest haired DD was almost Clementine and she thanks me daily for swerving at the last minute.

I honestly think Dinah would work well on someone with a fairer complexion but this is such a personal thing.

SomeLikeItTepid · 10/04/2019 22:53

Lucy or Jasmine would suit a little fair haired girl. They both sound good with your older childrens names.

Peregrina · 10/04/2019 23:02

Hmm - Amber or Sienna to go with the marmalade theme? Is Sienna too much like Susannah?

Peregrina · 10/04/2019 23:06

Sienna then makes me think of Florence, which would go quite well with Dinah.

milienhaus · 10/04/2019 23:07

How about Claire or Clara?

DeadDoorpost · 10/04/2019 23:09

My ginger friends names:
Francesca
Rhiannon
Hannah
Jessica

I've just realised though that I have a load of ginger guy friends... which isn't helpful! But I guess Harry could be changed to Harriett and James to Jane or Jamilla.

1poppy1 · 10/04/2019 23:10

Ruby or Scarlet

SelkieRinnNaMara · 10/04/2019 23:13

I really like Susannah and Joseph. If you like Marmalade! what about Adelaide with either Adele or Della for short. Della might suit a baby more than Dinah.

I love Flora, Lucy, Clara as suggested and think they go well with Susannah and Joseph.

foreverblessedbee · 10/04/2019 23:14

Oh what a bloody shame you cant call her marmalade!!!!!!! I love that! And its obviously made you smile a bit too...."squishy baby marmaaaaaaaallaaaaaaarde!" ( like Lady Marmalade but far far better lol). I'd want to go for Clementine if she was mine. She sounds gorgeous xxxxxx big congrats xxxx
