Hi all,

Thought this would be quite a fun thread to do as I think we have all had those names we have ADORED in the past and we look back now and think god no!

I made a list of baby names when I was 13 and on that list was Maygen for a girl😂 (literally pronounced may-gen) and Tina (nothing wrong with the name Tina just can't imagine a baby being named it!)

What are your WHY DID I LIKE THAT names? Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I used to want to be called Gillian (after one of the twins from neighbours who was called Gillian in real life)

JustRestingForNow · 07/04/2019 21:40

I loved the name Shirley when I was little in the 1980s. I think maybe because of a Shakin Stevens song?

Eustasiavye · 07/04/2019 21:42

I remember saying I would call my daughter Carol and a son Andrew when I was little.

DobbysLeftSock · 07/04/2019 21:43

When I was about 13 I was certain that I would call a girl 'Deanna', from star trek Blush

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 07/04/2019 21:43

I almost called my DD Faye 29 years ago. I’m glad I didn’t as it’s very much of its time

FurCoatAndNaeKnickers · 07/04/2019 21:43

I was certain I was going to call my future daughter Yvonne, thought it was very glamorous!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 07/04/2019 21:47

Oh DH and I were talking about this last night!

I used to love the name Faith. Very 90's now.

Shockers · 07/04/2019 21:50

As a child, I wanted my hypothetical daughter to be called Lucinda. I don’t hate it now, but my very real daughter isn’t a Lucinda!

twoforonespecial · 07/04/2019 21:50

I was going to have twins called Anne Marie and Nicola Jane, and a son called Simon. I thought that was very sophisticated in the early 80's.

lostlalaloopsy · 07/04/2019 21:51

I really loved Grease 2 so had plans to call my daughters Stephanie and Michelle. After the lead character and Michelle Pfeiffer who played her.

vegpatch · 07/04/2019 21:53

My friends and I wrote lists when we were in our early teens in the 90s. I seem to remember River featuring a lot, along with Rainbow, Rain and Willow.
(Still quite like Willow tbh)
Needless to say, none of our children have these names now.

ImportantWater · 07/04/2019 21:55

I also made a list when I was 13, in 1988. I’ve shared it on here before but here you go:
Girls: Samantha, Sara, Sophia, Sandra, Charlotte, Charlene, Christelle, Killashandra (Ha Ha Ha no), Dawn, Michelle.
Boys: Gary, Mark, Paul, Tony, Scott, James, Ricky, Bobby, Jody, Shane.
One of my children actually does have one of those names. Not Killashandra, sadly.

CoffeeRunner · 07/04/2019 21:57

I was obsessed with the names Kayleigh & Levi when I was about 14.

DS1 does have the name I chose for my future son when I was about 10 though Grin. It’s not Levi. It’s a lot more usual.

DD also has a name I’ve loved since my teens.

DS2 has a name that teenage me would have considered “boring”. But I now love it Grin.

WoollyMummoth · 07/04/2019 22:02

I loved the name Liesl from the sound of music. We both love the film but my Dd would have hated to be saddled with the name

cakesandphotos · 07/04/2019 22:23

I wanted Genevieve when I was about 12. The baby on the pampers advert had that name. It's definitely not on my list now! In fact most of the names I liked were vetoed by DH!

Ihavealwaysknown · 07/04/2019 22:23

I always wanted a Ben and a Phoebe... DH hates both names 🙄

Tillygetsit · 07/04/2019 22:26

As a teenager I was going to have twins called Catherine and Caroline. I then worked with a really weird stalker woman who became obsessed with me. Her name was Caroline so that scuppered that name.

BlueMerchant · 07/04/2019 22:27

When I was very young I wanted a Charlene
My son would be Hayden.
As a teen I had decided on Perdita and Paul.Hmm

rosesandveg · 07/04/2019 22:30

I used to love Lavinia, find it too flowery now! We actually gave our daughter a name I didn't like when I first came across it (years before she arrived), and really live now

MondeoFan · 07/04/2019 22:33

I was always going to have 5 girls and rather liked the names of spices "saffron" "thyme" etc
Hilarious really

Crunchymum · 07/04/2019 23:04

Cassie. I always had a huge love for this name!!

Have 2 DD and neither are a Cassie Grin

AlliKaneErikson · 08/04/2019 00:07

When I was a kid my future children were called Michael and Natalie. They are not actually that bad, I suppose, but I certainly didn’t use them!

mynameisMrG · 08/04/2019 00:21

I wanted Claudia after the party of five character. I don’t hate it now but wouldn’t be my first choice

NotMoreFootball · 08/04/2019 00:30

As a teenager I decided I would have 3 daughters named Mikayla, Nadine and Candy. I actually have 1 DS with a very traditional classic name so I was slightly off base!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 08/04/2019 00:36

I was determined I going to have a triplet boys called Morris Horace and Boris. Grin
