What sort of person do you think of? Would you judge the name? What sort of assumptions would you make?

My first thought was Midsomer Murders Grin

I'd assume someone with the first name Barnaby was a bit posh.

Propertybrothers · 22/03/2019 21:33

Love it! My teenager has it as one of his names and he loves it too. Has stood the teat of time.

BlueMerchant · 22/03/2019 21:33

A bit pretentious. Upper class. A bit 'wet'.

funkylittleboatrace · 22/03/2019 21:34

Love it but I know a few abs they are great guys.

Arowana · 22/03/2019 21:35

Hard question to answer because I know two and they are very different! One is sporty and cheerful, the other is more of a sensitive, head in the clouds sort of boy.

Lily715 · 22/03/2019 21:35

I feel like its a name a child would call their bear.

Dramatical · 22/03/2019 21:36

Barnaby bear was a thing!

CaptainCallisto · 22/03/2019 21:37

Seems to having a bit of a resurgence at the moment - I know of two under six months.

MaOverall · 22/03/2019 21:38

I really like it.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 22/03/2019 21:38

Reminds me of Becky and Barnaby Bear.

MaOverall · 22/03/2019 21:39

Independent spirit. Bit upper class yes.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/03/2019 21:40

Loving the 'teat of time' 😂 Barney I quite like, but I agree that Barnaby is a bit wet (possibly entirely because of the irritating bear)

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 22/03/2019 21:41

I love it. We had it on our list for boys names.

MaOverall · 22/03/2019 21:41

Hope the surname doesn't start with a 'B'

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 22/03/2019 21:42

I have a Barnaby (Barney) and he's not wet, or posh, and I'm definitely not pretentious or upper class. I got it from one of my favourite childhood books (though the boy in that was actually Barnabas, but our surname and his middle name begins with S so I thought it'd be too hissy.)

Obviously I think he's a lovely boy. I've met a couple of others who have also been perfectly nice normal kids.

Laquila · 22/03/2019 21:45

I love it and would have used it for one of my boys but my parents used to have a much-loved dog called Barney and we just thought it would have been a bit odd for them 😀

Creamwhite · 22/03/2019 21:46

Gorgeous.

Draughtincluder · 22/03/2019 21:48

violeticecream · 22/03/2019 21:54

I loved barnaby the bear
I think the theme tune went like ...
Barnaby the bears my name
Never call me jack or Jane

violeticecream · 22/03/2019 21:56

Sorry OP
To answer your question I think barnaby does have posh connotations but I think it's a cool name.

Still18atheart · 22/03/2019 21:57

I Really like it

Bellabellabel · 22/03/2019 21:59
