What sort of person do you think of? Would you judge the name? What sort of assumptions would you make?

Lovely name

soundsystem · 22/03/2019 22:07

Definitely a bit posh. Based on the ones I've met: calm, affable, polite, creative in a studious rather than zany way.

It's a name with positive connotations for me!

azulmariposa · 22/03/2019 22:08

I like it. It's a "proper" name, and will suit all ages (unlike some of the fashionable names at the mo!)

ShabbyAbby · 22/03/2019 22:30

I would probably make a class assumption if I'm honest

Sophronia · 22/03/2019 22:34

I prefer Barnabas

TheSheepofWallSt · 22/03/2019 22:37

My friends lovely 5yo is Barnaby (barney) - I was a bit unsure when she announced it- but it’s really grown on me, and love it now.

MyDcAreMarvel · 22/03/2019 22:41

I think bear.

cherriesandoranges · 22/03/2019 22:45

Cool name I love it!

emilybrontescorsett · 23/03/2019 09:30

Barnaby the Bears my name!

My favourite kids tv programme ever.

Joeybee · 23/03/2019 10:09

Straight off I think it's a bit pompous.
However if I look past that, I think it could be a really cute name on a little boy. It's a little bit grand, but also quite gentle. Not sure about Barney as a nickname though, I think of the dinosaur.

Mum2OneTeen · 23/03/2019 10:11

Love the name (I knew a Barnaby, he was a great quirky kid)

Babyfoal · 23/03/2019 10:14

Lovely.

abcriskringle · 23/03/2019 10:20

Love!

Sparkly124 · 23/03/2019 11:44

I like it.

ArtichokeAardvark · 23/03/2019 11:47

Love the name and know a couple of Barnabys. However both ended up as Barney, so make sure you like that name too.

SweetbutaPsycho · 23/03/2019 14:14

I really like Barnaby. It wouldn't think posh I would think quirky and cool

BertrandRussell · 23/03/2019 14:17

It has posh connotations. Jack Whitehall got a laugh by describing his father calling him and his brother and sister “Jack, Molly, Barnaby- come here!”

itssquidstella · 23/03/2019 14:33

I like it, and I like Barney as a nickname too.

Sparkly124 · 23/03/2019 14:35

Jack, Molly, Barnaby- come here!”

Nothing funny or weird about that combo, although Jack is a little dull from overuse!

Choosinganame · 23/03/2019 14:56

I love Barnaby. I would love to use it but DH thinks it's too posh. Barney is great too.
I imagine a friendly kind happy boy.

BlackPrism · 23/03/2019 15:17

I knew a Barnaby growing up.
Really loud chavvy family (sorry don't know how else to describe it) who always thought they were better than everyone. He went to Cambridge in the end and wouldn't shut the fuck up about it for two years until he flunked out.

VoyageInTheDark · 23/03/2019 15:24

I love Barnaby but DH thought it was too posh sounding

Sparkly124 · 23/03/2019 15:34

I don't get how a name can be 'posh'... surely a person makes his/her name!

I actually don't get some mumsnetters 'class' obsession. Does class really exist in 2019?!

AfterSchoolWorry · 23/03/2019 15:36

Beyond terrible. Weak and twee.

TroysMammy · 23/03/2019 15:38

I love the name. I did name a cat who died too soon Barnaby after Midsomer Murders and his brother who also died too soon after Troy, hence my user name.

I'd love to be able to call the name Barnaby out loud again.
