Middle Name For Harlow

Please help me decide!!

Harlow Olivia
Harlow Livea
Harlow Livienne
Harlow Ameline
Harlow Amelie
Harlow Amelia
Harlow Avianna

I love Olivia with Harlow but it's so popular and trendy that I'm kinda like blah on it.

Livea is a legit name that has been around even before Olivia. I like this spelling because Livia looks like you're butchering Olivia but Livea kind of looks unique.

I love Livienne but some people say it looks made up. I dont know the history. I just heard it and liked it. But I worry it's too rhymey with other middle names I may want to use for future children. Is that crazy? Does it matter if middle names rhyme or sound similar?

Other considerations are honor names like Ameline. I dont like Amelia as a first name but as a middle name with Harlow it sounds kinda good. So does Amelie.

I love Avianna but does it sound good in the middle spot?

I clearly need help deciding!! Thank you for the help!

(Also, Mumsnet isn't always the best place for opinions because, as someone else commented recently, if the name doesn't sound like it could come out of a piece of classic English literature it will probably get ripped to shreds on here! And as much as I love a little Catherine or Elizabeth, I like more modern names too. The names that are commonly suggested and adored on Mumsnet would probably be met by shudders or yawns by a lot of British non-Mumsnetters.)

HedgerowTree · 17/03/2019 06:24

People are really rude!
I like Harlow, and it’s a normal American name. Would people be so horrible if someone was say Romanian and picking a name normal for Romania?

I like Harlow Olivia. It was the first one you liked and flows well. It doesn’t matter as a middle name how popular it is.

P.s. I like surnames as first names, rules are there to be broken!

barryfromclareisfit · 17/03/2019 06:45

Harlow Carr. Nice place, lots of trees.

nocluenoidea · 17/03/2019 06:49

Why couldn't you pull off the name Lola? Surely a much more established name than Harlow?

I'm from the UK but live in Australia- where 'Harlow' as a name is also popular. I frankly cannot understand it but there you go! I understand if you don't have those connotations British people have then it works. However, what if your child wants to travel, and wants to live in the UK for example?

I like Amelie as a middle name, but I do think a shorter middle name would go better with Harlow

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 06:50

Thank you!! I do think Harlow Olivia sounds good. I guess a common name with a less popular name balances well.

Yeah its funny- I wanted to focus on the middle name but the focus became the first name! So I didnt get a ton out of this. But I did post in a British forum and Harlow is a place in Essex, so I do get how the focus could shift knowing that. It was a bit exhausting as I wasnt asking for anyone's opinions about Harlow!

I have noticed on these sites people only like really classic names like Elenore or Mable or Mauve. It's kinda weird. Even on sites more popular for people who live in the states! That's why I tried this one, for a different perspective. But I got a lot more criticism. And like I said, I actually get it. Place names are weird. I just totally forgot it's a place there. It's not in the US! Anyways I guess I'll keep deciding what middle namea sound best. Thanks to all!!

We went through our family tree and found our middle name, Elise. Could you do this OP? You might find something surprisingly nice! (90% of the names were pretty terrible and old fashioned).

Harlow is a lovely name - I'm from the south east and don't associate the name with Essex at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

chickchickchickchickenpox · 17/03/2019 07:17

Harlow Vivienne? You seem to like feminine middle names with V's and E's from what I can see. I don't think anyone has suggested it yet (too busy flaming you - to be fair I think most have not even been to the town!) I think Vivienne is classic and feminine and sounds pretty with Harlow.

FWIW I have a friend who works with children and she named her daughter Olivia - it's a very popular name here too but she and her husband liked it and she's so far not met another baby Olivia at any of the playgroups. I think Harlow Olivia works.

I knew a Livia - she is Eastern European (can't remember which country) and Livia is a perfectly acceptable name there.

I am bowled over by your graciousness OP, you sound like you're going to be a fun, fair and kind Mom x

daisypond · 17/03/2019 08:07

Livia with an I is nice and a normal name. It’s an ancient Roman name. Livea with an E looks a bit odd.

EstrellaDamn · 17/03/2019 08:15

Harlow Elise is actually lovely!

Guys, can we stop being so embarrassingly parochial now? Not everyone lives near (or gives a tiny shit) about bloody Essex Hmm

In fairness, if I were about to name a child Trenton Aphrodite or Limerick Gloria, I would want to be told. But yes, she doesn't need to KEEP being told, and she has taken it really well.

HJWT · 17/03/2019 08:36

@Rachelhaydenberk1 I think if your in the states Harlow Livea is beautiful! I Love names with amercan accents 😂😂

Livea though in the UK up north would sound like ' I LIVE ERE '

Hoplittlebunnies · 17/03/2019 09:08

OP if it helps I live 30 minutes away from Essex and know a handful of Harlow's. I don't associate it with the place at all.

chickensub · 17/03/2019 12:32

Harlow Lavinia

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:01

Some of you are super sweet- thank you! I did like Livea but it's a weight loss drug Haha! Just found that out after I posted about it here. Livia would be how I'd have to spell it. I know it's a legit name but I do think it looks like Olivia with the O lobbed off.

I think I'm between Harlow Olivia and Harlow Amelie. I woke up this morning and was like, maybe Harlow Amelie! I didn't love Amelie or Olivia as first names because they are so popular and trendy here. But Ama is a family name and I really wanted to lengthen it. I was stuck on Ameline for awhile but I got over it, sadly. I just dont like it all that much. But Amelie is classic right and for a middle name with Harlow it's quite nice?

Here’s a Star for you Rachel. Yes Harlow is a bit of a dump as towns go, but you’ve been so sweet and gracious on this thread. A PP mentioned Marlow - it’s a much nicer town that no-one ever slags off! Best of luck with your baby x

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:17

Marlow is a town too? I like Marlow for a boy actually. Obviously if I use Harlow, I wouldnt use Marlow if I ever have a boy! I like Hudson for a boy. Wouldnt that be cute, Harlow and Hudson?

OP posts:
Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:18

And our last name starts with an H but it's not Haydenberk. I dont want to disclose my last name on the internet.

OP posts:
Quintella · 17/03/2019 15:21

I think Harlow and Hudson do go together but seeing as you have a H surname I think it would be overly cutesy. Harlow and Hudson Hamilton is just a bit much! Marlow and Hudson Hamilton would be fine though.

dreichuplands · 17/03/2019 15:21

Marlow is a town OP but unlike Harlow it is a very nice town, not sure if that makes a difference.
At least you are not using a male surname as a girls first name like so many Americans do.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:27

I know! I find Harlow to be very feminine. I cant picture a boy with it at all. I dont even really think of it as a surname as I've never come across it as one. Except Jean Harlows stage name.

I like Elise a lot but it seems like a filler middle name like Marie or Grace.

I love the names Vivienne and Evangeline but I already have two nieces named Vivienne on each side. And our God daughter is Evangeline so these names are sadly off limits. I know as a middle name it wouldn't really matter but I think it would still rub everyone the wrong way a bit.

I remember a supermodel in the 90s Shalom Harlow.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:31

The other name we are saving if we have another daughter is Dahlia. I like Dahlia Lorinne (pronounced like Corinne). But we liked Harlow more.

OP posts:
Lulu1919 · 17/03/2019 15:34

Jane

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:34

I also liked Autumn, Everly, Avienne or Aviana, Gemma and Giuliana. Braver names were Arla, Raphaele, and Adria. I like Madeleine a lot for a middle name. Same with Violetta.

Rachelhaydenberk1 · 17/03/2019 15:36

Oh yes - Shalom Harlow!
