All you parents/teachers out there...

Tell me what are the popular boys names in nursery and reception class atm? Is there a few of the same you notice?

Want to avoid a popular name for our little boy ❤️

I work in a nursery.
We have 3 Noels at the moment, 2 Ethans and 2 Lucas'. Thats it for duplicates.

babycakes1010 · 26/01/2019 19:00

My sons in reception and there are a few Oliver's Daniel's and Alex/Alexander's aswell as Oscar.
My son is bailey and have never known another one in any of his class or nursery.
My other son is Frankie and again still have yet to meet another one

"Want to avoid a popular name for our little boy"

Maybe look up the baby name rankings for the last few years? Could be statistically more significant than a random sample of mumsnetters?

Just a thought.

blueskiesandforests · 26/01/2019 19:17

You can pick a statistically unusual name and still have 2 in a class - names sometimes "trend" in areas while remaining fairly unusual statistically.

DS1's name didn't make the top 100 list the year he was born and is now number 36 where we live, but there's another one in his class. Ds2's name is number 11 where we live but we have never met another child with the name locally of any age and there isn't one at his school or as far as the older kids are aware at theirs.

Leo, Archie, Oliver, lucas, Luke, and Reilly are the duplicated names in the nursery my youngest attends.

Ricekrispie22 · 26/01/2019 20:11

The duplicates in our reception class are Charlie and Tommy.

CocoLoco87 · 26/01/2019 20:13

The only boy duplicates in ours is Oliver.

Champy87 · 26/01/2019 20:15

Jumping on this thread to ask, how do people know the popular names in their area as opposed to nationally? I have googled and can’t find anything. Sorry to high jack

3boysandabump · 26/01/2019 20:18

I have 2 boys with a top 10 name but I never encountered any others with the same name. Other 2 have top 30 names and also never encountered another.

My 4 year old has 3 Adams in his class and I wouldn't have thought that was a poplar name.

Icklepup · 26/01/2019 20:19

Noah and Theo

babybean19 · 26/01/2019 20:35

Thank you everyone ☺️ names always come and go and I know that...but being as we are putting a list together just wanted to rule out the really common/popular ones! My husband was one of like 10 with the same name 🙈 I've looked at all the lists already of popular names/top 100 but interested to hear what people are hearing a lot of!

I work in a doctors surgery so we often see a pattern of certain names and of course very very unusual names too!!

Duplicate Theos in ours.

Other popular names I've met more than one of:

Hugo
Max
Oscar
Arlo

Twickerhun · 26/01/2019 20:43

Dexter
Theo
Luca
Ethan
Noah
Arlo

Twickerhun · 26/01/2019 20:43

Oh and max

Whynotnowbaby · 26/01/2019 20:48

Three Harrys in dd’s class (but she is six so a little older), ds has two Berties but I’m not sure that is very typical!

BackforGood · 26/01/2019 20:50

I do agree this is very regional (and, class based), as well as cultural and religious heritage.

TheFatberg · 26/01/2019 20:51

champy87 Do ONS not do by region? I'm sure they do.

Mummy2one2016 · 26/01/2019 20:52

There is no duplicates in my little boys play group and I'm yet to come across any at baby groups. He has a top 10 name for the year of his birth

mikado1 · 26/01/2019 20:56

Ollie/Harry/Bobby/Victoria/Dylan

mikado1 · 26/01/2019 20:56

Really really surprised at Noel!!

Zebedee88 · 26/01/2019 20:58

Theo, Freddie, Felix, henry/ harry

chipsnmayo · 26/01/2019 21:07

You can get really unpopular names and still have duplicates, but also popular names and have no duplicates.

When my DD was born 20 years ago there were 70 others that had the same name, she ended up in Y2 with another girl with the same name. Her name has been has since been in the top 100 for over 10 years now.

Likewise in her secondary school with about 100 in her year, there were NO Emilys.

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/01/2019 21:17

Last year:
Leo
Eli
Jayden
James x 2
Sasha
Rowan
AJ
Matthew

This year
Caoin
Cameron
Jacob
Charlie
Finn

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/01/2019 21:17

Oh yeah, last year also Noah

AfterSchoolWorry · 26/01/2019 21:19

Theo, Ollie, Max as well! Forgot those!
