All you parents/teachers out there...

Tell me what are the popular boys names in nursery and reception class atm? Is there a few of the same you notice?

Want to avoid a popular name for our little boy ❤️

There are 4 Teddy’s in my daughters reception class!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 26/01/2019 23:19

Sorry ‘Teddys’ bad autocorrect

ChimpyChops · 26/01/2019 23:22

Oscar. 2 of them in my son's foundation class. Thats it.

watsmyname · 26/01/2019 23:26

Micah has become popular in my area

BloodyWorried · 27/01/2019 09:24

We have four Logan’s in our reception class currently.

stellarfox · 27/01/2019 09:24

If you search ONS baby names they organise the popularity of names by regions, so you can check the most popular names in your area at least!

sunflowerxo · 27/01/2019 11:07

I'm a teacher- and seem to come across a lot more Olivers, Freddie, Alfie, Arlo.

tammytoby · 27/01/2019 11:40

Oscar and Archie have been very popular and I know several of each.

Jesse is much nicer and more interesting!

katy1111 · 27/01/2019 11:54

Charlie, George, Harry, Oliver and Dylan are the boys names there are more than one of at DS nursery. However, there is also a Theo, a Teddy and a Theodore, which I suppose are all variations on a theme.

ThatsExactlyRight · 27/01/2019 12:07

Duplicates:
Ollie/Oliver x3
Rileyx4
Ethan x4
Thomas x2
Max x2

All my preschoolers who started reception in Sept. it was a nightmare and that's just the boys!😂

comeonbaby · 27/01/2019 17:57

One of the reasons I dislike really popular names is I remember my brother (20 now) coming home to tell us about his day and there was like 7 Bradley's, so when he would talk about Bradley 1, Bradley 2, naughty Bradley, big Bradley etc I use to find it a nightmare keeping up!! The poor teacher having to have all these children with the same name 😂 I was lucky, I was named a really old fashioned name so the only one in preschool, infant and junior! When I went to senior school my name was only shared with girls about 5-6 years younger!! My name is much more popular now though!!

I know no matter what name we choose there will be someone with the same name etc but don't want a mega popular name if that makes sense!!

Yes lots of Alfies around here too!! Including my mums dog 🐶 and loads of Arthur's atm in our area...lovely name, but makes me think of Pauline Fowler shouting to Arthur 😂😂

comeonbaby · 27/01/2019 17:58

@stellarfox thanks for the suggestion of ONS will have a look as never knew that!!
Is the website called ONS?

NameChange30 · 27/01/2019 18:00

@comeonbaby
I've already shared this link on this thread but here it is again
www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/articles/babynameswhereyoulivecouldshapewhatyoucallyourbaby/2018-09-21

comeonbaby · 27/01/2019 18:06

Thanks @NameChange30
I've gone on that and when it asks for your area it gives the most popular name in area, but is only given the top name, as in one name....is there a way to have a list or is that normal?

YourEggnogIsBetterThanMine · 27/01/2019 18:13

Oscar, Jacob and Noah. I know 7 Oscars under the age of 5 plus 6yo has 2 Oscars in her class (and both are Oscar S).

NameChange30 · 27/01/2019 18:15

The article includes links to all the stats which include a section for the regional top names, 10 I think

YouWinAgain · 27/01/2019 18:23

There's two Harry's, two Archie's and 3 Oscars in my DDs Nursery class.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 27/01/2019 18:27

Oscar
Alfie
Archie
William / billy

Aquilla · 27/01/2019 18:31

Thomas x2 in Reception.

Kokeshi123 · 27/01/2019 23:36

There is nothing wrong with having a popular name IMO, but if you DON'T want a really popular name, my suggestion would be to have a think about some of the names that were popular in your own year at school and choose one which you like.

Any name which sounds "current" will probably be popular. You mentioned Archie and Oscar--sorry, but I know loads of each.

autumnkate · 29/01/2019 21:24

Logan

Yes, that's one option, but another is to look outside the current top 100 or 250. There are literally thousands of great names to choose from that aren't currently 'trendy'.

DollyTots · 30/01/2019 07:20

We have several

Logan
Ethan

effiehabb · 30/01/2019 11:45

Multiples of Finn/Finlay, Oscar, Henry and Thomas here

Leleophants · 30/01/2019 20:50

My best friend works in schools. Duplicates = Alfie, Archie, Leo, Theo, Noah, Oliver. A couple of Hunters too!
