We've always said we would use this name but I'd like to get others opinions as I'm doubting myself!

I think its one of those names that's quite cute on a small child but not so great for an adult. Like Poppy/Maisie/Polly etc

MrsCatKins · 06/12/2018 16:22

Another one that cannot unhear Sir Digby Chicken Caesar...

MummyBearRose · 06/12/2018 16:23

My hate when people say 'it's a animal name' when it isn't we don't say that 'Millie' is an animal name and I know plenty of animals and humans with that name .. I used to love love love the name dolly for a little girl and everyone persuaded me not to call my little girl it and thinking back now I shouldn't of let them get to me!

Coldsleeves · 06/12/2018 16:25

It's funny because I love dogs so even if people do think it's a dogs name, it only makes me like it more.

I'd be interested to know what people like as a name for those that hate it?

I don't think of dogs at all but I find it comes across quite pretentious, very posh and actually makes me think of a butler.."Digby, bring the car around". I know of a baby called Digby. Each to their own, it's not to my taste but as pp said once you know someone with that sort of name it changes your perception, doesn't seem so odd.

6freerangeeggs · 06/12/2018 16:31

It is a bit doggy but I think it could work, lots of names that were considered solidly dog names 10 years ago are popular now (and I say this as someone with a child with a "cat" name! Grin)

ItsJustASimpleLine · 06/12/2018 16:33

Digby Dragon?

Fairenuff · 06/12/2018 16:38

You say Digby - people think 'dog'

Name your child what you want. I'm sure no one would be so rude as to comment. But they will think it.

ADastardlyThing · 06/12/2018 16:40

I like most names tbf, but there are some that do make me wonder if the parents have thought for even one minute what it might be like to actually live with it. I don't tend to like those names.

L0kiWh0 · 06/12/2018 17:06

The fact of the matter is that people associate the name Digby with a dog.

But if you like it then go for it if that doesn’t matter to you. You could always name the next one Lassie

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/12/2018 17:12

Woof 🐶

Sallygoroundthemoon · 06/12/2018 17:13

Terrible, terrible name for a poor child.

Coldsleeves · 06/12/2018 17:24

I don't mind hearing opinions good or bad but some of you are just plain rude!

I suppose I like it because it's unusual whereas I think the Alfie's, Archie's, Harry's, jacks are just boring and ten a penny.

My dog is called Sasha and that makes that a dogs name. Digby is a lovely name OP and if you like it that is all that matters. It is only a dogs name if a dog is called Digby, surely, if you call your son Digby it will be his name😁

diamondofdoom · 06/12/2018 17:33

Absolutely not. Pure child will get torn to pieces in the playground

Windbeneathmybingowings · 06/12/2018 17:33

And this is just the beginning, let alone a whole lifetime of people being rude about your child’s name. Use it as a nickname.

It’s like ABCDE coming here and saying that people are being rude when they say she sounds like the alphabet.

Also, you seem to be quite defensive of the name. If it's something you like then go for it.

You asked for people's opinions and you're getting them.

NotyourMummynotyourmilk · 06/12/2018 17:37

How silly, there are so many unusual names nowadays it is not possible that a child in 5 years time will have any trouble in a playground because of his name.

diamondofdoom · 06/12/2018 17:38

Poor child. Serves me right for not proofreading

User3000 · 06/12/2018 17:38

Why bloody ask if you're going to get you're knickers in a twist when people say it's shite?

Just use the name if you like it that much.

Or save it for when you get a pet.

User3000 · 06/12/2018 17:39

*YOUR knickers. Not you're knickers

sue51 · 06/12/2018 17:39

It sounds like a surname not a first name.

PinkAvocado · 06/12/2018 17:39

I really like it!

Mymycherrypie · 06/12/2018 17:42

Even if someone hasn’t heard of the film and just hears it and thinks Ooh that’s unusual, I wonder what it means...

This is the first Google entry.
