We've always said we would use this name but I'd like to get others opinions as I'm doubting myself!

Isn't there a show on nick jr called 'digby dragon'?
That's what the name reminds me of... an animated dragon.

Daft name for a kid.

Theresomethingaboutdairy · 06/12/2018 13:48

Yes. For a dog

Phebes · 06/12/2018 13:48

No, I really don’t, sorry. You obviously do though, so go for it!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 06/12/2018 13:50

For a dog yes, a child, not really

KingLooieCatz · 06/12/2018 13:52

Look up The Surprising Adventures of Sir Digby Chicken Caesar off That Mitchell and Webb Look.

Aloethere · 06/12/2018 13:52

You don't think there is such a thing as a dogs name? What about Spot is that a people name too?

TheVanguardSix · 06/12/2018 13:55

I like it!

Windbeneathmybingowings · 06/12/2018 13:55

There are no dogs names as such, just names. However this one is so entrenched in dog name history that it even has a song. Someone’s parents or grandparents will remember this and he’ll have it sung to him at school.

The film might even get remade and that’d be worse.

ADastardlyThing · 06/12/2018 13:56

Cute for a dog.

OldBrownShoe · 06/12/2018 13:59

I think its an association, and it’s not a ‘dogs name’ as such.

Same as you associate Mickey with mouse, Alvin with a chipmunk, Peter with a rabbit, digby with a dog.

I’ve always loved the name Dougie, but after watching the tv show Hey duggee for the millionth time it’s completely put me off (he’s a dog too)

Buddyelf · 06/12/2018 14:05

@KingLooieCatz beat me to it - sorry OP, I hear Digby I think Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 06/12/2018 14:11

Yes! I love it!

Even Sir Digby Chicken Caesar can't put me off the name.

Digory is lovely too.

CrookedMe · 06/12/2018 14:14

No, I think it's silly.

Housingwoes · 06/12/2018 14:18

Don’t like Digby, too doggish.

Diggory will always be Cedric to me

daisypond · 06/12/2018 14:40

I like it. I think of Sir Digby Jones the businessman and politician. Never heard of the dog.

MamaDane · 06/12/2018 14:48

No sorry. It sounds like dick while also sounding incredibly weak/soft.

I mean if this is the name you and your DP love then it doesn't matter what MN thinks.
But now that you've asked I'd suggest using a different name.

areyoubeingserviced · 06/12/2018 14:49

Please don’t inflict that name on a child

giftsonthebrain · 06/12/2018 14:50

Digby clams

OnlyTheDepthVaries · 06/12/2018 15:01

Fantastic name. I love it.

startingafresh1 · 06/12/2018 15:03

Of course there is such a thing as a 'dog's name'- fido, rover etc. People may also use more human sounding names for their dogs but that doesn't change the fact that there are dog names.

Digby sounds very much like to belongs with other very doggy names to me.

Branleuse · 06/12/2018 15:09

yes i really like it

NoWayNoHow · 06/12/2018 15:10

OP, you can say you "don't believe in dog only names" till the cows come home, but it's doesn't change that fact that Digby is the name of many a dog and not many a child.

ButtMuncher · 06/12/2018 15:10

@KingLooieCatz that was my first thought too Grin

ADastardlyThing · 06/12/2018 16:17

Put it this way op, fast forward 3 years, you're in a park shouting your toddlers name, and you'll have 2 labradors, a shitzu and a Jack Russel bounding towards you.

Don't do it.
