I have such a name crush on the name Primrose that it’s our current front runner. Is it my hormones? I’m smitten but would value some honest opinions x

OP posts:

Yes indeed, newmummy - that's what I was pointing out.

KismetHardie · 05/12/2018 14:38

Ack. Not for me sorry. But then I don't like the current trend for floral names, and I know too many families where all the girls are called Lilly/Poppy/Violet/Iris etc. Makes me feel like I'm standing by a row of dusty Yardley's in a provincial chemist.

JassyRadlett · 05/12/2018 14:39

I really quite like it. Agree that most younger people will be more likely to make the Hunger Games association, and Prim turned out to be a fairly brilliant character.

Snipples · 05/12/2018 14:42

We have a niece called Primrose. I think it's a nice name. She gets shortened to Prim which I'm not keen on or worse still Primmie, but Primrose in full is good.

GrannyHaddock · 05/12/2018 14:48

Thank you New, your post supports my view that she was widely known as Rose, not always by the full name, which in any case is not an uncommon one.
Op, the good advice that is frequently given on here is to choose the name, and tell no-one until the baby arrives. You can see how opinion can be polarised, and you'll never please everybody.

CruCru · 05/12/2018 15:08

In fairness, Shipman’s wife was a poor soul who hadn’t committed any offence. I think it is a nice name.

newmummy0094 · 05/12/2018 15:15

@KatherinaMinola
I realised that was your point just after I postedConfused
Sorry pregnancy brainSmile

FlamingoFlamango · 05/12/2018 15:41

Hormones...I hope!

MummyBearRose · 05/12/2018 15:47

I think it's really pretty!

Autumnfairy82 · 05/12/2018 15:49

I think it’s lovely.

Juanbablo · 05/12/2018 15:50

I totally LOVE the name Primrose.

weekfour · 05/12/2018 15:54

I didn't make the Shipman connection and I'm only two miles away from his surgery. I did think Hunger Games. Maybe the way it's received will depend on age (dons hard hat).

SoftBlocks · 05/12/2018 15:56

Sorry I don’t like it.

redexpat · 05/12/2018 15:59

I think of Brambly hegde.

primrose
redexpat · 05/12/2018 16:00

Hedge!

KatherinaMinola · 05/12/2018 16:08

I love that picture of Primrose from Autumn Story - Brambly Hedge and Darling Buds of May for me all the way Smile

FartnissEverbeans · 05/12/2018 16:32

I love it! I think it’s really fresh and quirky.

CollapsedGingerbreadHouse · 05/12/2018 16:39

Me too redexpat. Op I love the name and I don't see Prim as a nick name to be unpleasant either. I have two quite unusually named children, never met another named the same, so I like a different name. Primrose is a pretty name in my opinion. 🤷

SnowyPaws5 · 05/12/2018 16:43

Completely agree!

daisypond · 05/12/2018 17:38

I like it. I don't think it's twee. It's a normal springtime flower. I'd never think of the Shipmans. The first Primrose that comes to mind is the one from Darling Buds of May.

cheesydoesit · 05/12/2018 18:37

I like it. Other floral names that were on my list but dismissed by DH include Blossom, Marigold, Lavender ("but she will be called 'Lav' for short") Hazel, Daisy, Ivy and Lilac.

ItsJustASimpleLine · 05/12/2018 18:45

Have a baby Primrose in our family she's lovely and lots of people seem to like the name.

Nesssie · 05/12/2018 18:47

“Hello I’m your lawyer, Primrose”
“Hello, my name’s Blossom and I’ll be your doctor..”

Hmm
cheesydoesit · 05/12/2018 19:20

Hmm yourself. I always think that's such a ridiculous and small minded comment to make. You do realise that professionals you may come across in generations to come won't all have names to your liking? She's hardly suggested Sparkle-Tits or Hot Rod has she? Also, think about what a class based judgement you are making. Are you saying that any man called Jayden could not be a high achiever? Are you insinuating that Dr Blossom is a twee airhead? What sensible and did you give your children?

cheesydoesit · 05/12/2018 19:22

*name. Sorry, your highly unoriginal criticism irked me into a typo oversight.
