I have such a name crush on the name Primrose that it’s our current front runner. Is it my hormones? I’m smitten but would value some honest opinions x

You know what? Don't even bother replying to that. Now I remember why I fucking hate the baby names board.

I think Primrose is lovely.

@Nesssie my doctor is genuinely called Tulip and she's done pretty well for herself!

I also have a very flowery name and not doing too badly for myself...

It's just a name.

I like Primrose :)

KatherinaMinola · 06/12/2018 16:28

There's an MP called Tulip too.

Maybe it's just me, but "I'm your lawyer, Primrose" sounds absolutely fine to me.

Pantheon · 06/12/2018 16:32

I knew a Primrose growing up. She was Prim for short. I think it's pretty.

6freerangeeggs · 06/12/2018 16:35

I would hate to be called Primrose, sorry. The prim thing is really off-putting.

DerfelCadarn · 06/12/2018 16:38

It was my Grandmother's name and I've used it as my DD's middle name. I say go for it!

BroomstickOfLove · 06/12/2018 18:08

I can't start the name snobbery here. I did my training contract at an international commercial law firm, and when I did a seat in the litigation team, I was working under a partner called Tracey and a senior solicitor called Sharon. Primrose isn't that unusual, and can be shortened to Rose or Rosie for someone who wants something a bit more conventional.

daisypond · 06/12/2018 18:52

Primrose means "first rose" - prima rosa - as it's an early spring flower. It's lovely.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 07/12/2018 01:36

I love it. Don’t know what the shipmen reference is!

Pinklily1 · 07/12/2018 11:57

I love it

gummibears · 07/12/2018 13:33

Primrose is quite nice but I prefer Primarosa (not sure if that's a known name or not).

mimibunz · 07/12/2018 13:36

I love it!

MrsBungle · 07/12/2018 13:40

I love Primrose,

ForAMinuteThere · 08/12/2018 07:55

It's lovely. I have a name that is linked to a mass murderer. No-one has ever mentioned a thing!

Alfie190 · 08/12/2018 08:14

It is truly ghastly. Bordering child cruelty. I wouldn't have made the Shipman connection though.

IncomingCannonFire · 08/12/2018 08:26

I know a 5yo Primrose. Tbh I was a bit Hmm when the name was announced but it's actually grown on me now and it's just who she is.
I wouldn't care if my doctor/lawyer was called Blossom, etc. As long as they are qualified, do the job competently and are not a misogynistic prick.
Wink

yikesanotherbooboo · 08/12/2018 08:42

I really think that Shipman is a massive reach.
I'm not a great flower fan for names but that being said I think that Primrose has quite a lot going for it. I am amazed that you think that it doesn't have gravitas enough to support a woman with a professional career . It's a perfectly fine adaptable name.

LaDaronne · 08/12/2018 09:20

I think it's awful, sorry. I do think Shipman, and she looked so drab and downtrodden in the press coverage (unsurprisingly for what she'd been through of course, poor woman).

midsomermurderess · 09/12/2018 12:39

The connection with Harold Shipman isn't a massive reach, though, is it, given how many people have said they make the connection.

llangennith · 09/12/2018 15:03

Lovely name but it will be shortened by school-friends. What nn did you have in mind?

Seven posters have, Tiger.

tammytoby · 10/12/2018 17:11

Names don't need to be shortened! My dd has a 3 syllable name and has very rarely been shortened.

Primrose is easy to say!

tammytoby · 10/12/2018 17:12

I barely know Harold Shipman and doubt many kids will Hmm

1sttimeunicorn · 10/12/2018 17:31

I really love it OP. I'm not sure if I would use it as it doesn't fit our surname but I'm pg at the moment and it's on my list. I think go with it!
