I have such a name crush on the name Primrose that it’s our current front runner. Is it my hormones? I’m smitten but would value some honest opinions x

I knew about Shipman’s wife and I do find it a bit twee... but I still love it!

GrannyHaddock · 05/12/2018 09:20

Katherina, if you are referencing Mrs Fred West, she was widely known as Rose, which is exactly why I did not include it.
I quite agree with PP about the first syllable, Prim.

BroomstickOfLove · 05/12/2018 09:25

I spent 6 months of year 1 in a primary school in London almost 40 years ago, and my best friend there was called Primrose. She had short, dark hair, could run really fast, and liked Jemima from Playschool. She was great and I think it's a lovely name.

yumscrumfatbum · 05/12/2018 09:27

I love it!

Harebellmeadow · 05/12/2018 09:31

Primrose is a beautiful perrenial and could contribute substantially to saving our ecosystem - helping moths and other insects, especially nocturnal ones.
Sounds very prim but lovely, like a kind sister.

Choccywoccyhooha · 05/12/2018 09:35

It's a lovely name. You should definitely go for it.
No association with Shipman occured to me at all.

RedDwarves · 05/12/2018 10:04

Love Rose, hate Primrose.

Primrose is so stuffy. "Prim" is awful. It's a bit like Petunia vs Lily in Harry Potter. One is a classic; the other a caricature.

Flamingosnbears · 05/12/2018 10:17

I think it's refreshing actually there are loads of Rose's around good to go for a lovely distinguished name in my opinion

And no not H. Shipman at all nobody owns a name.

GrannyHaddock · 05/12/2018 11:03

Nobody owns a name, but names resonate, otherwise why the fuss about baby Adolf recently? For some of us, perhaps we are slightly older, Primrose resonates in a particular way.

ernjas · 05/12/2018 11:09

Not keen, sorry!

Astronica · 05/12/2018 11:13

I think it's really appealing and would love to meet a little one!

DidntKnowThat · 05/12/2018 11:28

Poster who thinks it's too much like Shipman, suggests Rosemary instead

Hilarious.

GrannyHaddock · 05/12/2018 11:54

There are many more Rosemarys around than Primroses, they are not comparable at all.

TheDustbunny · 05/12/2018 11:57

Rose is lovely but Primrose is awful. It's much too twee, and yes I thought of Shipman's wife also.

A580Hojas · 05/12/2018 12:07

Absolutely beautiful name!

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 05/12/2018 12:11

I went straight to the Hunger Games (Katniss' sister) and I suspect a lot of younger people will make that association.

It's a combination of stuffy (probably because it has the word 'prim' in it) and being a bit twee that just doesn't make a great name. Sorry!

Wolfiefan · 05/12/2018 12:21

Prim from Hunger Games.
Prim and proper.
Don’t like it.

SnowyPaws5 · 05/12/2018 12:36

I love it!

Littlestar3432 · 05/12/2018 12:38

Thank you all for your opinions. Lots for us to consider. I still ❤️It though x

I love it - it's my daughter's middle name. It's much more interesting than boring old Rose. It means first flower of spring (from memory).

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 05/12/2018 12:45

It's nice!
I also like Marigold - Goldie for short Smile

Joinourclub · 05/12/2018 12:54

I think it’s cute. And also think it’s a bit odd that it makes anyone think of Shipmans wife.

SomethingAboutNothing · 05/12/2018 12:58

I like it, it's pretty and not often used.

It made me think of the hunger games, I certainly didn't know the name of Harold Shipmans wife Hmm

TheDustbunny · 05/12/2018 13:41

It isn't that odd. The Shipman murders was a huge story when it was uncovered and Primrose is a an unusual name. I've never known one so like quite a few people on here she's the first Primrose who comes to mind.

newmummy0094 · 05/12/2018 14:01

@KatherinaMinola
