Silver for a girl?

What does everyone think of the name Silver for a girl? the name came to me with a sudden rush of emotion and I’ve always wanted to name my baby after something to do with the moon and the Silver brightness of the moon seems perfect.

I know it’s most likely a marmite name and negative views probably won’t put me off too much. Also any ideas of a middle name to go with it?

I like it. Can shorten to Silvie too which is sweet.

Only heard of this as a character on '90210' (unsure if it was her real name or a nickname). I would say choose Sylvia or Silvia or Sylvie instead, which are more 'real' names with history. They are also lovely.

The name Selina or Selene means 'the moon' . Selene was the Greek goddess of the moon. Or Luna of course.

Silver is currently a male character on Hollyoaks, short for Sylvester. That might influence how people view the name. I like it, but would associate it with being a male name.

I love it. I'd have fought hard against DH though for Silver if I was having a girl!

Ironically, he likes Gray for a boy, which I don't!

I think she’d need to look a certain way ... imagine she had red hair (for example) - would Silver really fit her?

Thanks for the replies everyone love the suggestions as well! I did like Luna but I would prefer to stay away from names too high on the top 100 which Luna is.

Definitely considered Selene as well as the goddess.

Had no idea about the holly oaks thing that’s kind of a downside but tbh doubt it will be relevant in a few years. And the horse thing I discovered when I googled it’s to do with some cowboy film I hadn’t heard of? I’m 23 so think it might be a more of an old film?

Sylvie is definitely cute but out of the two I do prefer Silver. Didn’t expect replies so thanks. Glad some people like it like me! Any middle names to go with it?

Villanelle, I’m mixed race and both my children have dark hair and eyes and Mediterranean type of skin colour. I’m sure the name would suit a mixed race child just as much as say a blonde child but I can understand why it would be odd for a red head.

I kind of like it despite myself! As people have said, Sylvie offers a slightly less off beat nickname if she wants it.

Go more traditional on the middle name too, in case she prefers that one day. And no nouns (no Hazel, Poppy, Lily, etc), and not starting with S.

Yes it was Erin Silver on 90210 I think I really liked the name back when I watched it too. Agree about the classic middle names. Both my boys have unusual names and we gave them very traditional middle names to offer a choice when older. Marianne is lovely
