Imola for a girl? Thoughts....

Considering using Imola, as the name for are soon to be born baby girl, with Mae or Rose as a middle name. Know it's unusual, and can't find out much about its use as a name, and don't want to discuss it with family... Thanks

Grand Prix.

I'm not even interested in racing cars but, from casual news and sport listening, am aware of that connection.

lottiegarbanzo · 25/10/2018 07:27

Also suggests immolate, which is not a nice concept at all.

Why not use a real name, like Imogen, Eleanor or Iona?

maerd · 25/10/2018 07:27

How do you pronounce it? I’m pronouncing it im-OH-luh in my mind which sounds a lot like Ebola to me...

TaggieRR · 25/10/2018 07:29

It makes me think of immolate

chipsandpeas · 25/10/2018 07:29

imola is a race track in italy, notable for the place where ayrton senna and roland ratenzburger died

Avegemitesandwich · 25/10/2018 07:29

My first thought was 'that was the racing track that Ayrton Senna was killed at isn't it'?

I also think it sounds a bit like a contagious disease, like ebola.

It's a no from me I think.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/10/2018 07:30

I had Imola as a child; brings back memories of pus and flaking skin.

Thenewdoctor · 25/10/2018 07:30

Car racing circuit

Avegemitesandwich · 25/10/2018 07:30

Oh I cross posted there!

L0kiWh0 · 25/10/2018 07:30

I went to school with a girl called Imole (imm-oll)

She was of Nigerian descent. Wondering if it has the same roots?

Shelby2010 · 25/10/2018 07:31

Imola Mae.... first thing I thought of was Enola Gaye. Not a good association!

flapjackfairy · 25/10/2018 07:33

It sounds like enola gay ( however it is spelt) which was the plane that dropped the Hiroshima bomb( I think) so that would rule out mae as a middle name. But tbh I don't like it at all anyway. Sorry x

LaLaLolly · 25/10/2018 07:33

Reminds me of immolate, which is an awful connection.

Imola Mae sounds like Enola Gay (another terrible association)

E20mom · 25/10/2018 07:38

Yep the Grand Prix.

TillyTheTiger · 25/10/2018 07:41

Racetrack. How about Emilia instead.

MrsEricBana · 25/10/2018 07:43

Yes immolate / Enola Gay / Ebola. Sorry not a fan.

SinkGirl · 25/10/2018 07:44

Agree with pp- too many negative associates. Senna was the first that came to mind.

VictoriaBun · 25/10/2018 07:46

Another for Ebola.

BigusBumus · 25/10/2018 07:47

My DH has just been round that racetrack on his bike, first thing I thought of. Imola is not a girls name at all. And with so many fabulous names out there please don't give her the middle name Mae whatever her name is. My middle name is Louise like 75% of women in their 40s (guessing) as I am a 70s baby and it's so boring. Mae is the modern version of Louise.

Motorcyclemptiness · 25/10/2018 07:47

What about Imelda? I have heard the name in Ireland and Spain and it means 'warrior woman' which is pretty inspiring for a young girl!

Aprilislonggone · 25/10/2018 07:48

Nn for Immodium?

NightOwlHoney · 25/10/2018 07:48

Ebola was my first thought too.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 25/10/2018 07:58

To me it suggests an unlucky race track.

Imelda Mae or Rose?

cptartapp · 25/10/2018 08:07

Sorry OP but it sounds like Ebola, a horrific disease. And not another Mae or Rose as a middle name. May if you must.

user2020 · 25/10/2018 08:07

I thought Ebola.
