Considering using Imola, as the name for are soon to be born baby girl, with Mae or Rose as a middle name. Know it's unusual, and can't find out much about its use as a name, and don't want to discuss it with family... Thanks

I think of the race track.

ShesABelter · 25/10/2018 17:52

Makes me think of cremola foam. Really dislike it.

Goldmandra · 25/10/2018 17:53

I suspect that the OP has enough responses to consider now. It seems a little cruel to continue.

Branleuse · 25/10/2018 17:54

Imola mae, you should have stayed at home yesterday

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/10/2018 17:54

Just no. There are SO many perfectly lovely names, WHY name your precious child after a racetrack that sounds like a hideous tropical disease?!

SlowlyShrinking · 25/10/2018 17:56

Cancel the cheque

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/10/2018 17:57

OP if you love F1, why not start another thread asking for suggestions for a nice F1 name.
Imola Mae isn't nice.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/10/2018 17:59

Actually years back I knew someone on another site who named her DD Senna, after Ayrton.
Senna is also a laxative.
Poor child.

IrenetheQuaint · 25/10/2018 18:04

What about Iona instead? Or Imogen, or Isla.

OhFlipMama · 25/10/2018 18:05

Oh no, the first thing I thought of was Ebola.

Fernicktylo · 25/10/2018 18:05

I always thought it was immol-i-ate (Maybe confusing it with emollient) so I have learned the correct word thanks to this thread!

TatianaLarina · 25/10/2018 21:00

It’s Italian ffs. People here need to get out more.

Yes it is a girl’s name.

No it sounds fuck all like Ebola. If you think that you’re pronouncing it wrong.

Avegemitesandwich · 25/10/2018 21:14

Yes I know its IM-uh-la (well that's how the place is pronounced anyway isn't it?) rather than im-OH-la but it still reminds me a bit of ebola when written down.

And its still a racing circuit where 2 people died. And looks a bit like the word immolate.

I don't know if the OP is Italian, but I'm still not sure it would work very well in the UK.

Rebecca36 · 25/10/2018 21:20

Imola sounds like something to eat, a pudding maybe.
No.

TatianaLarina · 25/10/2018 21:22

There are loads of words in Italian that end in ola are you reminded of Ebola by all of them?

TatianaLarina · 25/10/2018 21:23

I know an Imola and it works fine. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t know how to pronounce it.

hellloooo · 25/10/2018 21:54

I-mole-a?? I wouldn't know how to pronounce it but instantly thought areola, as in nipple. Sorry op

ThanksItHasPockets · 25/10/2018 21:58

It isn’t a name in Italy, though. It doesn’t register at all in the Italian name data since 1999. To an Italian, Imola is a racing circuit or a city in Bologna.

Unicornandbows · 25/10/2018 22:02

Another for ebola sorry..

RaininSummer · 25/10/2018 22:05

Sorry to say that my first thought was medicine and disease followed by Enola Gay.

MumUnderTheMoon · 25/10/2018 22:09

Imola is a Roman word meaning "over there" the meaning isn't great but it sounds pretty I suppose.

ileclerc · 25/10/2018 22:11

Ebola.

TatianaLarina · 25/10/2018 22:29

To an Italian Imola is about 30 mins drive from Bologna. They’re both in Emilia Romagna. ‘A city in Bologna’ (which I’m assuming you got that from google) means in the province of in this case.

Imola is one of those names like Florence, Sien/na or Roman that are inspired by Italy but not used there. Although the Imola I know is half Italian.

That website didn’t work for me, it’s not registering Beatrice and Sofia either.

ThanksItHasPockets · 25/10/2018 22:45

Really? OK. If you want to get really specific then Imola is a 'comune' in the metropolitan city of Bologna (previously known as the province of Bologna), which in turn is in the administrative region of Emilia-Romagna. I 'got that' from my cousin who lives nearby and from my fairly frequent visits there.

Website is working fine on my Macbook but not on my phone. It is quite slow. 2,820 Beatrices and 7,616 Sofias born in Italy in 2016, if anyone's interested Wink

FastWindow · 25/10/2018 22:47

I like it. Assuming it's pronounced Imm-alah, not Ih-mow-lah?
