Sebastian & ?

We’ve pretty much decided on Sebastian for our boy, although Elijah & Zachary aren’t 100% out of the equation yet.

Which name do you think fits best for his twin sister: Beatrix, Cecily or Penelope? We are still discussing Edith, Frances, Margot & something a little more ‘unusual’ - Hermione, too.

We aren’t wanting anything matchy which is why these are looking likely to be our top picks (Sebastian, Beatrix, Cecily & Penelope) but nothing is set in stone yet.

Older siblings are Aurora, Violet & Theo(dore - but is always Theo) Thanks!

Eliza.
I actually know a brother and sister with these names and they’re lovely. His girlfriend is called Robyn, if you like that instead?

BertramKibbler · 20/10/2018 15:02

My cousin called her son Sebastian about 15 years ago and everyone was a bit Hmm with the little mermaid connection but I think the name is more widely used now so I wouldn’t really be put off.

I like all your boy choices but only really a fan of Penelope or Margot for the girls ones.

Your children all have lovely names in my opinion anyway, and I don't think Disney straight away with Sebastian you're not calling your daughter Pochahontos so I don't really get the issue?

Sebastian is lovely, and I know a Zachary and think his name is lovely. His siblings are Jude and Annabel.

Sebastian and Penelope (likely to be Seb/Bash and Penny) both lovely names and not matchy my matchy. - my fave combination.

Rogueone · 20/10/2018 15:57

Sebastian and Jemima
Sebastian and Annabel
Sebastian and Eleanor

Good luck!

LeeMiller · 20/10/2018 16:24

I don't think Penelope goes very well with your other names but the rest are mostly nice, especially Edith and Frances. Cecily I find horribly frilly and weedy sounding.

Most people are likely to think Harry Potter with Hermione anyway, regardless of your other kids' names - I'm not a fan either and it would bother me, but if you don't mind comments then I don't think having an Aurora and Sebastian as well would be a particular issue - it's not like they're all characters from the same book/film.

DC2018 · 20/10/2018 20:47

Looks like not many people have read your OP lol. I like Cecily best with Sebastian x

pixieloux · 21/10/2018 10:44

@DC2018, I think you may be right WinkGrin I think Cecily fits with A & V’s names too - it’s definitely a strong contender Smile

Thanks for the feedback on our list, @LeeMiller & @gilmoregal

I disagree with your DH Beatrix is more dowdy, Beatrice is more elegant and stylish.

Love Sebastian and Beatrice together.

pixieloux · 21/10/2018 19:38

DH won’t consider Beatrice. I tried to put it to him again when we both agreed that we weren’t the biggest fans of the possible NN Trixie for Beatrix. We can live with it but it wouldn’t be our first choice where as he really can’t live with Beatrice for some reason lol.

Sylvie and Sebastian?

pixieloux · 21/10/2018 19:48

It’ll be between Beatrix, Cecily, Frances, Hermione or Penelope - although Frances and Hermione are still maybes. That’s if we go with Sebastian. We’ve kind of gone back to the drawing board to see if there are any other names we like with Elijah and Zachary.

We’ve decided against Edith and Margot now - DH has said Edith is probably too old fashioned with our DDs’ names so it’s our and Margot is too close to Theo especially as it doesn’t have a natural diminutive to use with it.

We really don’t want anything matchy with their names which is why we’re wary of using Beatrix, Cecily, Hermione or Penelope with Elijah & Zachary. We also don’t want to initial share... They’re already going to share so much.

Frances, Hermione are Penelope are all lovely.
Sebastian is okay but I do prefer Elijah!

pixieloux · 21/10/2018 20:55

If we were only having one (as planned lol) then I’d probably have fought for Zachary to be our boy name - I have fallen in love with it since we were trying to conceive BUT it rhymes with all our joint favourite girl names lol. Frances is the only name we can really ‘pair’ it with. I love it, it was from my list, but it just seems a little too unisex with A & V’s names which are very feminine or as some would say, frilly.

Elijah & Penelope (Penny/Nell) aren’t rhymey to my ear. I think we could use that as a possible pairing? Elijah and Beatrix or Elijah and Cece/Cecily sound too much to me however.

I really struggle with boy’s names. When we were naming DS I had a grand total of two names on my list that I put to DH and we ended up using one of them lol. Apart from Arthur and Elwood - which we can’t use, these three are the only names I would want to name my DS. I’ve always had my concerns with Sebastian having an Aurora though... It’s definitely more difficult naming children the more you have lol.

I love Sebastian & Edith together its just so lovely. Also think Edith goes well with the rest of your childrens names.

TatianaLarina · 22/10/2018 09:55

Sebastian is great.

Out of all your kids I think Beatrix would get the short straw as it’s not a particularly nice name. If your husband is unpersuadable on Beatrice I’d go with Imogen from your old list, personally. Or Cecilia. Cecily is a bit twee.

OutPinked · 22/10/2018 10:05

Beatrix and Sebastian sounds great.

pixieloux · 22/10/2018 12:07

Twee seems to be our style lol. I’ve seen Aurora described as twee a lot over the years and Letty which is Violet’s NN.

Felicity and Imogen are two names we love but just can’t stand the diminutives for and I know they’ll get shortened as with our other children. NNs weren’t something we thought of with DD1 but soon learnt to consider them after having her... Our family called her all sorts when he was little but she’s just Aurora or Rora now - by request lol.

pixieloux · 22/10/2018 12:11

We are going to rethink our list though as I just don’t seem to like any of these when paired together. It feels like we’re taking one step forward and two steps back as of now.

OP posts:
TatianaLarina · 22/10/2018 14:16

I don’t agree that any of your other names are twee - Aurora is lovely and I don’t think Letty as a nn is particularly twee - certainly no more than any other.

KiplingAngelCake · 22/10/2018 14:33

Fabulous names - including your other DC names

Penelope and Hermione both great. Love Margot too.

How about Clara or Mary?
