Fiona?

We want to call our dd Fifi, but it’s important to us that she has a more grown up name to use should she choose to.

I really like Fiona, but I’m wondering if people would consider it a bit dated?

We’re also considering Josephine, Sophie/Sophia, Felicity, and dh likes Ophelia (but I’m not convinced). I also don’t think any of those lend themselves to the Fifi nickname quite as well as Fiona!

Do you like Fiona? Or do you prefer one of the other names/have any other potential long names for Fifi??

I love it but DH vetos Sad Go for it OP!

IrisApfelRocks · 12/10/2018 08:59

My daughter is Freya Ophelia nm Fifi . I really love Josephine

greendale17 · 12/10/2018 09:00

Fiona Bruce

Don’t like it- dated, boring, dowdy

MaitlandGirl · 12/10/2018 09:10

I’ve finally found a name thread I can be offended by - it’s not as much fun as I’d thought it would be.

I’ve only ever met one other Fiona in my life and she was a year older than me in secondary school.

I’ve never not liked my name and it’s never felt dull/boring/dowdy.

I’m mostly Fi (pronounced Fee) to my friends and family and have never ever accepted being called Fifi, to me that’s just too French poodle.

deptfordgirl · 12/10/2018 09:25

It sounds a little dated to me. I prefer all of your other choices, particularly love Felicity.

finallychangedmyusername · 12/10/2018 09:34

I love it.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/10/2018 09:59

The only Fifi I know is short for Ophelia.
I also like Sophia and Ffion as BC names.
Really dislike Fiona, sorry.

implantsandaDyson · 12/10/2018 10:08

I dislike it, I'm one. I find it very dated. From the age of about 6 anyone who called me Fifi was given a death stare and I never answered to it. Occasionally I was called Fif (Feef) or Fi. I prefer Fia, usually from Sofia.

Poppylizzyrose · 12/10/2018 10:20

I don’t ever like insulting names or peoples name choices as they are people out inevitably called those names Blush
So sorry Fiona’s of this thread!

However it’s not a name I’d choose, I love Ffion though. Flowers

Cosmoa · 12/10/2018 10:24

I have 3 friends names Fiona! So I don't think of Shrek at all although my newphew does call one of them 'Princess Fiona'

Lovely name ❤️

PippilottaLongstocking · 12/10/2018 10:24

Fiona is lovely! The only Fiona’s I know are in their 50s but I think it’s due a comeback (I know toddlers called Edith and Dilys and Fiona is definitely prettier than that!)

I also agree that Ffion, Ophelia and Sophia/Sofia are beautiful names

AhoyDelBoy · 12/10/2018 10:43

Well exactly Cosmoa, nor do I. So how many people think of Shakespeare when they hear the name Ophelia I wonder? Or the thousands of other names that ‘go with something’.

oskars · 12/10/2018 10:52

Definitely too dated in my opinion, sorry! Blush

Quicknamechange2108 · 12/10/2018 11:01

I only know lovely Fiona's so it's a yes from me.

17caterpillars1mouse · 12/10/2018 11:41

It's a strong beautiful name. One of my best friends is called Fiona (she's 32) and is one of the lovliest and strongest people i know.

I also know a cute 5 year old Fiona. Though neither go by Fifi.

I think from your other choices Sophie lends itself to Fifi the best

WerewolfNumber1 · 12/10/2018 12:02

I like it. It’s one of those classic names that everybody can spell and pronounce, but there won’t be loads in her class.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/10/2018 12:06

How about Finola ?

Oysterbabe · 12/10/2018 12:19

I like it. The only Fiona I know is wonderful.

SoftBlocks · 12/10/2018 12:22

Much prefer Ophelia. Unfortunate Fiona associations here.

BiscuitsAndGravy · 12/10/2018 12:23

Shrek

Peridot1 · 12/10/2018 12:24

Dated? Middle aged? Shock.

I’m one. I’m certainly middle aged - more Shock

I never answered to Fifi - too French poodle for me too. I do like Fee though.

I always liked it growing up. I only met one other.

BlueChampagne · 12/10/2018 12:43

This year's dated name will be bang on trend in 5 years!

I think it's a great name. Princess Fiona fron Shrek is not a bad character to be associated with.

EthelHallowsBroomstick · 12/10/2018 13:03

I like it a lot (despite the Shrek link!). Also like Josephine, and Felicity is nice. Sophie is too popular IMHO and Ophelia is poncy.

HappyGoDucky · 12/10/2018 15:33

I'm going to throw Fina into the mix....

Deadringer · 12/10/2018 15:38

I only know middle aged Fiona's, but is is a nice name. What about Fianna or Fia. It as a pp suggested, Sofia.
