Alicia?

A - liss - e - a
Or
A - lee - sha

I love the first pronunciation but hate the second. Is there another way some might spell it so it’s more obviously pronounced the first way?

The first way.

sazzle27 · 05/10/2018 18:26

First way - ah-liss-ee-ah

Mostly due to my best friend having this name..

sazzle27 · 05/10/2018 18:26

Most people said it that way as well, very few used the second way to her, and even if they did, once corrected they didnt

Boxingmum · 05/10/2018 18:34

This was one of my baby names and it's pronounced the first way "Ali see ya"

Beautiful name, I ended up having a boy, called him Cole ... still love this name!

LeeMiller · 05/10/2018 18:43

Al-i-see-a

Al-ee-sha is the more common pronunciation in the US, I think.

BettyBoo246 · 05/10/2018 19:16

I did think of may be spelling it Alyssia so there’s no confusion but can’t help but think that looks a bit ‘made up’ Hmm

I don't like Al-iss-y-a or Aleesha ways of saying it.
I would say it as Al-ISH-a, like the icia in Patricia.
So I would pick Alyssa or Alice instead.

basquiat · 05/10/2018 19:31

There have been multiple threads on this in the past, so if you want more opinions, OP, a search should show up quite a lot.

I personally would pronounce it Uh-leesh-uh.

I'm not sure it matters really. After the first time, everyone will know. And don't most people learn your name through speech, rather than by reading it written down? So when she says "Hi, I'm Alicia" they'll hear how she pronounces it anyway.

Bellatrix14 · 05/10/2018 19:57

I work in a school where that name is fairly popular, I reckon it’s about half and half pronunciation wise. It’s also just my luck that if I say “A-lee-sha” she’ll be an “A-liss-e-a” and vice versa Hmm

I much prefer “A-liss-e-a” though Smile

OrdinaryGirl · 05/10/2018 20:08

I always used to think it was A-LISS-ee-ah, when I saw it written down, but then the first person I met who was actually called Alicia pronounced it Aleesha.
It's a funny one because people don't ever instinctively pronounce Patricia as Pa-TRISS-ee-ah. 🤔

DC18 · 05/10/2018 20:27

I would pronounce it A-lee-cee-ah
It's a nice name but unfortunately I reckon it will be pronounced a multitude of ways depending on who says it x

TwigTheWonderKid · 05/10/2018 20:46

Ultimately, every name was made up at some point!

I think Alyssia looks very pleasing and sounds exactly as you want it to, so I'd go with that.

starzig · 05/10/2018 20:48

Al eets ee a

Twillow · 05/10/2018 21:09

Alice-iyah. Never heard it pronounced the other way. unless it's spelt Aleisha.

MsMotherOfDragons · 05/10/2018 21:13

Sorry, but it's pronounced Aleesha. If you like names that sound like Al-iss-ee-uh, you could try Elyssia or Alyssia?

MsMotherOfDragons · 05/10/2018 21:13

FWIW, I think Alyssia looks really pretty

Dontbuymesocks · 05/10/2018 21:14

The first one

Sunflower321 · 05/10/2018 21:57

Alicia and Patricia both pronounced -isha.

Shadow1234 · 05/10/2018 22:02

Pronounced Aleesha

MauraIsles · 05/10/2018 22:06

A - lees - e - ah

SoupDragon · 05/10/2018 22:19

Sorry, but it's pronounced Aleesha.

No, you personally pronounce it like that as a default. Not everyone agrees.

Personally, I only ever heard Alyssia growing up. I only heard it as Aleesha fairly recently.

starzig · 05/10/2018 22:21

Haha so many people in these threads insistent their pronunciation is the correct one.

BettyBoo246 · 05/10/2018 22:27

It seems fairly 50/50. I really don’t like the 2nd pronunciation it’s a completely different name in my eyes/ears!
I think if I go with it then possibly spell it Alyssia.
I am always asked how to spell my name as there are so many different ways so that aspect doesn’t bother me but my name sounds the same however you spell it.

OP posts:
Glumglowworm · 05/10/2018 22:55

I would say (and prefer) A liss ee ah

But there is no universal pronunciation of it, so if it bothers you then don’t use the name

I did once meet a Patricia who pronounced it Pat ree see ah btw!

RedDwarves · 05/10/2018 23:37

It would always be Aleesha here in Australia. I have never heard it pronounced another way.
