Opinions on the name?
What gender would you associate it with?

Definitely a masculine name. I know a 3 year old Loki. I quite like it but don’t think I’d use it - quite a lot of cultural baggage. The Loki I know has a twin brother called Kai.

weebarra · 24/09/2018 21:21

Haven't seen the films but I'd think Loki the trickster from Norse mythology. Know a couple of cats with the name.

eltsihT · 24/09/2018 21:22

My children have names from Norse mythology but they are actual names that are used in Scandinavia. Loki is male, and not a name I would call a child

ProfessorMoody · 24/09/2018 21:22

I show dogs. It's VERY popular in dogs.

ivartheboneless · 24/09/2018 21:24

My kitten is called Loki. Loved the name but not for my child, sorry

BikeRunSki · 24/09/2018 21:26

Male, not a particularly nice male from Norse mythology. Good name for a dog.

Ixnayonthehombre · 24/09/2018 21:26

I adore it. I know two and have heard of another. I know two Thor's as well. Most of the posters on this name forum are sheltered and uptight and will only tolerate traditional British names. Take no notice.

ASqueakingInTheShrubbery · 24/09/2018 21:27

I know 2, one's 8 and the other's 6. I don't know the character or the cultural associations but I like the way it looks and sounds.

TaggieRR · 24/09/2018 21:27

I agree with pp who suggested Lachlan, nickname of Loki

dinosaurkisses · 24/09/2018 21:32

“Most of the posters on this name forum are sheltered and uptight and will only tolerate traditional British names” OR maybe they just think if you’re going to use a name from another culture, do your homework and make sure you know it’s connotations?

CantankerousCamel · 24/09/2018 21:35

Asking for trouble..

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 21:36

Did anyone ever watch The Almighty Johnson's? Loki was a prick. Though I loved that awful show

darkblu · 24/09/2018 21:37

Male name, Norse god as mentioned above, my sisters cat is Loki 😁
Would also go for Lachlan nn Loki

Nightwatch999 · 24/09/2018 21:44

Thor's evil brother!

DragonMamma · 24/09/2018 21:46

I know lots of dogs called Loki. They are naughty dogs too...

HotSauceCommittee · 24/09/2018 21:47

Lochia....

chuckiecheese · 24/09/2018 21:48

There is one in our reception year at school. I thought it was s joke when someone told me. Sadly not Sad

Fatted · 24/09/2018 21:49

Nope. Loki from mythology is not the 'misunderstood mischievous trickster' of the movies. It's like calling your child Lucifer.

MissLadyM · 24/09/2018 21:51

🤣😂🤣

Me!! It was weirdly good in a WTF kind of way.

ViserionTheDragon · 24/09/2018 21:55

Agree that it's a cat's name. Don't do it!

MaryandMichael · 24/09/2018 21:57

Reminds me of lota for washing your bits.

Thatstheendofmytether · 24/09/2018 22:04

Nope. Loki from mythology is not the 'misunderstood mischievous trickster' of the movies. It's like calling your child Lucifer exactly what I was thinking.

Cindersdonegood · 24/09/2018 22:12

@iklboo It was fab.
I did crush on Hodr and Bragi a little....

iklboo · 24/09/2018 22:14

Bragi was all mine. Imagine my joy when Dean O'Gorman and Aidan Turner were cast in The Hobbit Grin
