Honest views on shortlist for girls!

Hi,

We're expecting DC3 in Jan and names are proving a challenge. DH teaches at an all girls school so just associates so many of the names I love with particular children he teaches.

We don't want anything too "out there", something that will work in a variety of contexts when DD is older. Other than that, no "colour" names like Ruby or Violet (they don't work with our surname, which is the name of an animal!).

Shortlist in no particular order:

Iris
Nina
Cassia (Cassie for short, not a fan of Cassandra though)
Anya
Carla (maybe Carly for short)

What do you think?

i like cassia. its different but a lovely name

I love Nina but I'm not keen on the rest (personal taste, no loathing of any of them).

Cassia and Anya are gorgeous!

I like Iris and Carla.

I love Cassia too and like the NN possibilities that you don't get so easily with Iris or Nina.

I like Iris, Cassia and Carla from your list. How about, Callia, Rosalie, Marina or Lorna?

Carla (maybe Carly for short)- nope! Unless your giving birth to a 40year old in accounts!

Marina is lovely, not heard of Callia before. Interesting.

I love Cassia. The rest are very bland.

Love Keziah too, which is another version of the same name afaik.

I quite like Carla. However I dont see the point of using Carly for short. It's no shorter than Carla its just a different ending sound.
Nina and Iris. Are faultless.
Cassia is okay. I'm not over keen though.
Anya see Cassia.

Iris - lovely little vintage name
Nina - gorgeous! Great connotations of Nina Simone for me
Cassia - I love this name. I like Cassie as a nickname for this. I'm with you, though, not a fan of Cassandra.
Anya - pretty name. Not my fav on your list but still cute
Carla - a lovely underrated name. Love the nickname Carly. Only thing is, maybe some people might confuse this name with Clara.

I think if I had to choose one name though, I'd chose Nina, with Carla being a close 2nd choice.

Please use Cassia, the name is lovely but the nn is even lovelier!! Cassie is the best nn and with Cassia you don’t have to use the god awful Cassandra (sorry to any Cassandras)
