Hi,

We're expecting DC3 in Jan and names are proving a challenge. DH teaches at an all girls school so just associates so many of the names I love with particular children he teaches.

We don't want anything too "out there", something that will work in a variety of contexts when DD is older. Other than that, no "colour" names like Ruby or Violet (they don't work with our surname, which is the name of an animal!).

Shortlist in no particular order:

Iris
Nina
Cassia (Cassie for short, not a fan of Cassandra though)
Anya
Carla (maybe Carly for short)

What do you think?

I love Cassia

christmashope · 22/09/2018 07:32

I love Nina and iris x

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/09/2018 09:15

I like Cara/Carly and Cassia/Cassie best.
Quite like Anya too.

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 22/09/2018 09:26

Nina is great, as is Iris.

I'd go for Nina as it's not as popular.

Threeandabit · 22/09/2018 10:30

Kirsten
Katrina
Marian
Anne-Marie

Threeandabit · 22/09/2018 10:33

Sorry, I posted on your thread by mistake!

I like Carla best. I also like Nina and Iris.

NannyR · 22/09/2018 10:35

I love Nina and Anya. Iris sounds to me very much an old ladies name, of my grans generation, like Doreen or Marjorie, but that's just my opinion, I know lots of people really love it.

catenthusiast · 22/09/2018 10:36

Iris is lovely, I like Cassia too. Not a huge fan of Carla, it has a different vibe to the rest.

LittleMouseontheDairy · 22/09/2018 10:46

I loved Nina for years but weirdly when I got pg with DS1 I went off it because I like names you can NN and Nina doesn’t really lend itself to that - but I do get a pang when I see it.
I love the nn Cassie and I like Cassia too (might put that on my list...)
One of my dearest friends is an Anya and I’ve always thought it was a beautiful name.
I know a young Carla and while I like the sound of it overall I don’t the name itself (IYKWIM) - but it’s unusual without being ‘out there’ so definitely not a bad name.
Iris is lovely too but for me it has the same nn issues as Nina.
Overall I think your choices are lovely OP! Don’t think you can go wrong with any of them really.
Sorry if that’s not very helpful!

Mugglemom · 22/09/2018 10:50

Cassia is my favourite from your list.

kettleonplease · 22/09/2018 11:37

I like Cassia.

I don't understand the love of Nina. I was so bullied as a Nina at primary school that I changed my name by deed poll!

twinkledag · 22/09/2018 12:19

Anya and Cassie

QuarterMileAtATime · 22/09/2018 17:56

I like Nina best, despite knowing a pretty awful Nina at university

Sungura · 22/09/2018 21:14

Cassia and Anya

Pemba · 22/09/2018 21:27
  1. Nina - gorgeous

2 Joint second Cassia and Anya, both quite nice. Cassia is unusual too.

Don't like Iris much really, although it seems to be popular now. OK it's a lovely flower, but is the sound of the actual word - 'eye-riss' that nice? Carla is fairly meh, and seems a bit dated.

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 22/09/2018 22:54

Iris and Nina are great. Not keen on the others. Cassia could be nice but Cassie is dreadful. Agree with a PP that Carla is dated - how about Clara, though? Anya is too of-the-moment IMO.

EmmaC78 · 22/09/2018 22:57

I am not keen in Cassia. I like Cassie so would used that instead. It seems strange to use Cassie as the nn for Cassia when it is no shorter.

Hernamewasl0la · 22/09/2018 23:00

emma it’s no shorter when written but it is shorter to say

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 22/09/2018 23:05

Anya with nickname Annie is fabulous!

Helpmefindaholiday · 22/09/2018 23:28

I like Nina. What about Cora?

CupboardDoors · 22/09/2018 23:30

Like them all except Carla

helpingvsdoinghomework · 22/09/2018 23:40

I'm
Awfully sorry but I don't like any of the names. I think we just have different styles

QueenOfMyWorld · 22/09/2018 23:46

I actually prefer Callia to Cassia

EmmaC78 · 23/09/2018 08:19

Hername - not a huge difference though to make there any point to the nn. Just seems odd to me.

Honeybee79 · 23/09/2018 10:25
