Hi all...

This may be the totally wrong place to ask ...but I could do with help

So.. The background

I'm a sikh (turban wearing) man...who married a blonde blue eyed english woman. Been married a looooong time.

We have now had a baby girl.

So... now we have an issue finding a name that works.

Constraints from us both.

The don't wants :
totally English name,
totally Indian name,
long name that will just get shortened anyway,

a name that is muslim/arabic in origin or attachment.

Please Help!!!

Is simran still popular?

IggyAce · 10/08/2018 08:03

Two sisters who have Indian and English heritage are Anita and Anthea.

AtticaRose · 10/08/2018 08:06

Ah ok. You said not Muslim/Arabic, but I didn't realise you didn't want Hindu names either.

Right. Tricky. Trying to think outside the box for non-Indian non-UK names that both can pronounce...

Danika
Priya
Mia
Eleri
Cara
Coral
Serena
Selena
Eliana (Ell-ee-ah-na)
Hera

I had a friend with mixed parentage called Ruby. I thought it was a lovely name that mixed her Asian heritage with an old fashioned English name.

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 10/08/2018 09:50

Different mix, but we went for English first name and Chinese middle name, sometimes call her by either. Is that an option, as PPs have suggested?

Butterflycookie · 12/08/2018 23:53

I was going to say simran. It’s a really pretty name and it’s very easy to pronounce. Some others:
Archie (like the actress Archie Panjabi)
Kareena
Selina
Ashwina
Harleen
Gurleen
Nikita
Jasmina (instead of the more common jasmine)
Larissa
Karishma
Alyssa
Alicia (pronounced aleeesha)
Amrit or Amrita
Gina
Aisha
Isha
Anjali or angeli (I had a friend that was half English called angeli)
Sheena
Samira
Sheila
Leila
Somali
Anaya
Amaya
Amelia
Mia
Sabrina
Dina
Lalita
Delilah
Leah
Rea
Indira/indie
Jamie

I can’t think of any more! Smile

Butterflycookie · 12/08/2018 23:55

*not Somali, sonali!

Teaandcrisps · 13/08/2018 04:17

How about:
Anu
Deanna
Rula
Amalie
Amy
Sofia
Zarah
Zena
Zelda

Sophronia · 13/08/2018 04:37

Nikita
Annika
Anita
Amrita
Riya
