Hi all...

This may be the totally wrong place to ask ...but I could do with help

So.. The background

I'm a sikh (turban wearing) man...who married a blonde blue eyed english woman. Been married a looooong time.

We have now had a baby girl.

So... now we have an issue finding a name that works.

Constraints from us both.

The don't wants :
totally English name,
totally Indian name,
long name that will just get shortened anyway,

a name that is muslim/arabic in origin or attachment.

Please Help!!!

Hi OP, how about Jasmine (flower), it's a very pretty name, and works well in both cultures.🌸

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 09/08/2018 11:00

Another one I like is Asha, meaning hope.

daisypond · 09/08/2018 11:37

I know a couple of children with the same mix - girls called Sasha and Zena. But maybe Nina and Serena are good too.

Peachbubble · 09/08/2018 11:43

How about Carina, Clara, Freya, Elise, Mia, Viola?

AtticaRose · 09/08/2018 11:43

Anita works well both in India and in Europe (different origins, nice in both).

Aditi, Amala, Asha etc are well-known in the UK and causes no issues.

foxtiger · 09/08/2018 12:50

I've heard of a Sikh girl called Alysha and met one called Freya.

Would you consider a name from a completely different country so it is kind of neutral to both of you?

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 09/08/2018 12:53

Amy, Asha, Aria, Maya...there are too many! If you search for it you will see many names are the same in english and punjabi

Thank you one and all for taking the time to help...I really appreciate it.

@Sugarpiehoneyeye
Jasmine / Jasmin is def in the options...but does seem like lots of people go to that one
Asha... seems more hindi / hindu than sikh and then not english in any way...

@daisypond
I don't think any of those will work with the surname and Serena has become very used

@Peachbubble
I love Mia.. but wife prefers Maya... although... doesn't like it is pronounced May-a or Miya by different people.

@AtticaRose
Thanks... they are all more hindi names and wouldn't really sit as neutral.

@foxtiger
I've known a fair few muslim kids called alysha/alliysha or similar...so it won't sit...but Freya is def something outside the box....

@NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade
Thanks... I just mentioned Maya is one that is in the mix....but its about the pronunciation... indians would pronounce it with a nasal Maya...or with a desi twang.... and it bugs her :)

@DramaAlpaca
Tara is not one i'd have considered....but i'll mull it over

@Greenandcabbagelooking
Thanks... Avni is out as i have a neice with that...not sure the rest work for us

@mrssnickers & minimalist99
Thanks... Miya and Maya seem to be go to names....but as i said...its about pronunciations...

I'm really thankful you all spent time to try to help.... is there any other thoughts... for a really short name....or one that is a bit out the box...>?
