I've got two children already Albie (full name Albert) and Edie (Eden) and I'm expecting twins a boy and a girl. We've already decided to name the boy Otto and so I'd like to keep on the theme of vowel names and have fallen in love with the name Immy however I'm not keen on Imogen. Could we just name her Immy or is there any other suitable longer names?

Immy would be short for Imogen or Imelda

“It's like saying the full name for Hugo is Huguenot.”

Oh lord, don’t say that on Mumsnet! You know what will happen- in 6 years time Reception classes will be full of little Huguenots. And the following year, there will be Plantagenets and Gothas “Sooo pretty for a little girl........”

Frosty6611 · 04/08/2018 07:44

Otto just reminds me of the stoner/drunk school bus driver in The Simpson’s.

Otis is nice though. And Imelda is much nicer than Imogen

Cyclebird · 04/08/2018 07:47

I know an Otty whose real name is Elliot. I've always quite liked that.

MrsDc7 · 04/08/2018 07:48

I agree with PP that you can’t call him Ottoman. He’ll have the mick ripped for his entire life. I also don’t think it’s right to call her just ‘Immy’. It doesn’t sound very professional and I don’t think she would thank you for it. Imogen is lovely

MrsDc7 · 04/08/2018 07:48

Elliot is nice

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 08:08

Count Otto Von Bismarck was NOT called Ottoman.

The OP never mentioned Ottoman. The name is Otto.

Steven is not short for Stevenage.

At 01.09 the op mentioned ottoman.

frogprincess84 · 04/08/2018 08:50

Imelda is an old lady name in Ireland. Immy makes me think of Imodium.

MrsDc7 · 04/08/2018 08:59

Ottoman was definitely mentioned

ilovelondon123 · 04/08/2018 09:07

I think Immy is definitely short for Imogen. We have a Millie whose nickname is Immie. Always has been. People assume she is called Imogen x

fartyghost · 04/08/2018 09:12

You could call the girl Ode and then add Joy as a middle name.

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 09:12

That's because a previous poster put the idea into her head at 1.05.

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 09:14

So, using the Ottoman logic, Immy is short for Immingham.

mydogishot · 04/08/2018 09:16

The Imogen I grew up with nickname was smudge.

I have nothing else to add.

SuzanneVaguer · 04/08/2018 09:20

Is Immy actually a name in its own right? I have never heard of that.
The only Immy I know is short for Imanpreet.

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 10:28

No to Ottoman.
If you like Immy how about Emmanuelle.

TatianaLarina · 04/08/2018 10:32

Otto isn’t short for anything it’s a name in itself.

Ottoman would be very odd unless you have Turkish relatives. And it won’t go down well in Armenia.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 04/08/2018 10:33

I love Imogene - nn could be Immy, Gene, Genie, Mo ❤️

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 11:53

I thought Emmanuelle was a porn film. I think @MikeUniformMike is having you on OP.

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 12:13

Not at all. I like Manu short for Emmanuel too.
The porn film was a very long time ago, about 1974.

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 04/08/2018 12:22

I know a little otto.
He is 2 and very cute. He always gets complements on his name.

I like the i-mee-nee name listed above.

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 12:36

So it is a porn film then GrinGrin
