What can Immy be a nickname for

I've got two children already Albie (full name Albert) and Edie (Eden) and I'm expecting twins a boy and a girl. We've already decided to name the boy Otto and so I'd like to keep on the theme of vowel names and have fallen in love with the name Immy however I'm not keen on Imogen. Could we just name her Immy or is there any other suitable longer names?

Oooooh. Ismene is lovely! Also can't tell if you're joking but please don't call a child Ottoman...

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 04/08/2018 01:40

Cross post... but that's good news for your child! 😁

Nearlymothertofour · 04/08/2018 01:43

@LorelaiVictoriaGilmore yes, I think I'm leaning towards Ismene too

I really cannot believe I hadn't seen it before. I have always prefer Otis to Otto anyway, what are your thoughts?

I have an Otto who is just Otto and i get loads of compliments on his name. He gets called Otty.
I’d use Immy as a nickname for Imogen but if you’re happy to get creative it could be short for something like Miriam

Abouttoblow · 04/08/2018 02:01

You want to call your child Immy....so call her Immy.
I do not understand this whole name, nickname, middle name thing.
You have a child, you want to call the child something, just do it.

Nearlymothertofour · 04/08/2018 02:05

@PippilottaLongstocking I love Otty and that way it'd go more with the rest of the names ending in the e sound

@Abouttoblow yes I had originally just wanted Immy it's mostly my mother in law putting us off as she keeps saying it's not a name and we'll have to give her a 'proper name' too.

I quite like the idea of just Immy as it means last born and I'm pretty sure we'll be having no more after these too

What about Emmy or Emme? Too close to Edie, perhaps?

Maybe Camille? Could get Immy at a stretch out of that.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 04/08/2018 02:18

This is getting weird. Imhotep? Ottoman? Confused

spreadingchestnuttree · 04/08/2018 02:21

I love Otto but not so much Immy as a full name. She'd get asked her whole life what it's short for.

Nearlymothertofour · 04/08/2018 02:25

@spreadingchestnuttree thank you I've also not heard of many Otto's and love the idea of having children's name which aren't overly popular or common and yes I agree, whenever I tell people Edie's name they are quick to ask what it's short for and I'd imagine Immy will be the same

Ottoman is a piece of furniture, just go with Otto if you like but it reminds me of the American imprisoned in North Korea
Everybody will assume that Immy is Imogen.

brizzledrizzle · 04/08/2018 02:31

Just seen you like Immy because it means last born, that can't be guaranteed with twins and everybody will ask which is the older twin.

PointlessUsername · 04/08/2018 02:34

Kimmy.

Nearlymothertofour · 04/08/2018 02:38

@brizzledrizzle yes I know I had thought that but my thinking was that even if she's the first twin they collective will probably be my last born.

We had names for the other two so quickly and easily having not even found out the genders before they were born but I'm really struggle this time. Really not helped by my mother in laws constant input which I'm happy to ignore but my husband can't seem to do the same

I'm also now struggling to decide what I like more Otto, Otis or Ode

Perhaps Ode is too similar to Edie

OP posts:
Ihuntmonsters · 04/08/2018 03:22

An ode is a sort of poem, the 'e' at the end just makes the 'o' at t he beginning sound out (like 'oh') it's not pronounced itself at all. So ode doesn't sound similar to Edie. But it's also not a name. Go with Otis or Otto :) both sound good with the other names you have picked.

Immy is usually a nickname for Imogen in my experience. I don't think it stands well on it's own. If you are looking for short girls names beginning with I how about Ivy, Iris or Irene?

ReginaBlitzkreig · 04/08/2018 04:38

Ottokar with Otto as nn?
Imelda is nice

BlueWonder · 04/08/2018 04:44

Jemima? Taking inspiration from the 'im' in the middle......

bridgetreilly · 04/08/2018 07:19

Immac.

Chocolatecake12 · 04/08/2018 07:27

Could you use ottillie for the girl nn Otto
Then use an I name for the boy
Isaac
Ivor
Isiah
Ian
Ivan
Isaias

BertrandRussell · 04/08/2018 07:34

“You have a child, you want to call the child something, just do it”

You aren’t naming a child. You are naming a person who will be an adult for 60 years.....

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 07:35

Otto has been a proper name for a long time but this is the first time I've ever heard it linked to Ottoman.

It's like saying the full name for Hugo is Huguenot.

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 07:37

That's a sweeping assumption beetrand

YogaPants · 04/08/2018 07:38

Immacolata
Emer - sounds similar
