What can Immy be a nickname for

I've got two children already Albie (full name Albert) and Edie (Eden) and I'm expecting twins a boy and a girl. We've already decided to name the boy Otto and so I'd like to keep on the theme of vowel names and have fallen in love with the name Immy however I'm not keen on Imogen. Could we just name her Immy or is there any other suitable longer names?

I believe so.
I think you could find something to snigger about re lots of names.
Maybe grandads would snigger about a 1974 soft porn film.
Imelda and you will get asked if you have a lot of shoes.

MrsMarigold · 04/08/2018 12:57

Why not just call her Mimi.

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 13:02

Otto could be short for Ottavian, Ottokar, Ottavio etc.

I would just name her Immy personally if you don't like Imogen.

Treaclepie19 · 04/08/2018 13:39

If you liked Emmie instead you could have Emmeline.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 04/08/2018 13:50

The only Immy I know is an Asian man called Imrahn.

daisypond · 04/08/2018 13:53

Otto is fine, it's a nice name Definitely not Ottoman.
I don't like Immy as a full name at all. It's too cutesy and bland. I'm not keen on Imogen, but Ismene is great. And I like Imelda as well, but the famous one is Imelda Marcos, if that might bother you. I know a couple of girl Imans, too.

IWouldLikeToKnow · 04/08/2018 14:00

I think it's only on Mumsnet that you have to give your child a so called "proper" name so that they can choose their name when they get older. I think if you like a name then call your baby that. I don't think it's a name that gets people a job or not. And by the time these babies are looking for jobs there will be lots around with less traditional names.

NotGoodAtMakingFriends · 04/08/2018 14:05

What about Emmie, short for Emmeline?

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 14:08

If you look at lists of people qualifying for e.g. the bar, there are all sorts of names on them.
On MN it is compulsory to pick a long version of a perfectly acceptable name and put the long version on the BC (e.g. Ella has to be Gabriella, Ava Avaline , Theo has to be Theodore and Leo Leonardo etc)
It is also compulsory to like long names but to only use a nn for everything.

loulouljh · 04/08/2018 14:10

Immery...

heartsease68 · 04/08/2018 14:12

I think you've mixed Ottoman up with Ottilie.

bridgetreilly · 04/08/2018 16:40

The porn film was a very long time ago, about 1974.

Ahem. I think you'll find that 1974 was not all that long ago. Not at all. No way.

D0do · 04/08/2018 17:05

THE OP DOES NOT WANT TO CALL HER SON OTTOMAN.

Otto is a perfectly OK name all on its own but I agree with whoever said you could switch to Ottilie for the girl's name and call her Ottie or Otty. Or you could go with Ollie, short for Oliver (or Olivia, I suppose). Or Odie for a girl, short for Odile or Odette. Or Ozzie, short for Oswald?

If you do go with Immy for the girl, short for Imelda, my association would immediately be with Imelda Staunton, who is a terrific actress, not Imelda Marcos, who is still alive (contrary to my first assumption!) but is nearly 90 and will be at best a footnote in world history by the time this little girl is growing up.

Failing that, what about Izzie for a girl, short for Isabelle/a or one of its many variants?

DottyBlue2 · 04/08/2018 17:10

As OP wants to continue the vowel theme, the letter U has not been considered.

Ursula
Ulrick
Uma
Uggboot
Umber Ella
Udon Noodle
Una
Utterbollox

Edward Heath was PM until Harold Wilson was elected in March, Richard Nixon was POTUS until august when he resigned over the Watergate scandal. Georges Pompidou was president of France and died. Agatha Christie was still alive. Lady Diana Spencer became a teenager. Abba won the Eurovision song contest with Waterloo, and MacDo opened it's first uk restaurant.
Recent events.

daisypond · 04/08/2018 17:22

D0do Imelda Staunton, of course!

Totopoly · 04/08/2018 17:23

Ottakar is a bookshop, thought that would not be an obstacle for me. Otis is a lift. I would find this more problematic.

Totopoly · 04/08/2018 17:27

I'd avoid Ottilie. It's a lovely name, but becoming too popular. Octavius/Octavia, nn Octo/Occy? My DC have (very uncommon) long names on their BCs, but are known by shorter versions. Not because I think they're going to be judges, but just to give them more choice when they're older.

D0do · 04/08/2018 17:27

Otis associations - lift, yes, but also Otis Redding (sublime) and Miss Otis Regrets, which is a great song. Does Ottakar's still exist? One near us got taken over by Waterstone's a long time ago, haven't thought of that name in years.

MikeUniformMike · 04/08/2018 17:27

OOh I like Amber-Ella. It's almost as good as Amber-Lyn
Impossabella nn Immy
Imaginata nn Immy
Immodie
