Bigmouth

So bigmouth OH told both our families our shortlist today at a BBQ. He's in the doghouse. The reaction was terrible especially to Vera which was my favourite. I know it's easy to say our baby our choice but the flak we got was so bad it's put us both off. I'm really upset. Would you honestly pick a name both families really hated ( my mum said it was like calling the baby Edna) and where do we go from here? I'm so mad I can't sleep and have just trawler another 5 name sites!

GahWhatever

Cherry is and anglicized version of Cherie

That's the spelling I was trying to think of in my previous post.

MariaMadita · 02/07/2018 18:04

Cherie pronounced like Cherry is a bit ridiculous imo.

(Not saying that the people who suggested Cherie would pronounce it that way...)

JedediahBila · 02/07/2018 18:05

Cherie? Like Cherie Blair?

MariaMadita · 02/07/2018 18:07

But Cherie (more or less French pronunciation) may ultimately sound like Sherry (also depends on the speaker).

I think either go for Cherry (not my favourite name either, btw) or pick a different name...

MariaMadita · 02/07/2018 18:09

I think I'd* either go

FawnDrench · 02/07/2018 19:41

Not too keen on Cherry.
Liked Vera.

How about Julia?

NelleB · 02/07/2018 19:42

We’re having Veronica as a middle name after my wonderful Nan! X

Oysterbabe · 02/07/2018 20:01

Vera's nice. Tell them to piss off.

Oysterbabe · 02/07/2018 20:03

How about Norah?

Picknickers · 02/07/2018 22:29

More rows! We're (he's) not speaking. I will not be calling my daughter Cherry/Cherie or....wait for it...Cheralyn. FFS! He says he never liked Vera and only went along with it to stop me being moody. Hmmm. Gonna leave it all for a few days and lurk about here in case anything sticks. Thanks for the help x

Cheralyn? :0

Ehm. How about Geraldine? Josephine? Genevieve, Coralie, Caroline, Chara, Charis, Francesca nn Cesca, Christabel nn Chrissie, Cleo, Ginny, Naomi?

mozzybites · 03/07/2018 02:49

Stay firm OP. Cherylan !

moredoll · 03/07/2018 03:07

Will it cheer you up if I tell you I clicked on your thread because I actually thought you were asking for opinions on the name Bigmouth for your new baby?!

^This.

Vera wouldn't be on my list but how about

Iris
Louise
Alexandra nn Sandra
Helen nn Nell
Elizabeth nn Betty

Clarashan · 03/07/2018 06:20

Even if they dislike Vera initially, once the baby is here and they put the name to the new face they will see it as nothing but cute!!! Change the association! I couldn't get used to it when a friend said they were calling their baby Edith (to me it was a 60year old lady name), but as soon as she arrived I couldn't imagine her as anything but!

Marcipex · 03/07/2018 15:01

You could combine Vera and Cheralyn and call her Veralyn Grin

TatianaLarina · 03/07/2018 15:20

Or VeryCherry

elQuintoConyo · 03/07/2018 15:34

Vera Farmiga is a fabulous actress (she was in that Up-something film with that Clooney fella).

The only Cheralyn i know goes by the nn Charlie.

Cherry was Miss Marple's housekeeper/helper. It's a cute name for a bunny or a hamster, but not a person. (IMVVVVHU!)

Elvira is similarish...? El-vy-ra or El-vee-ra. Tis a fantastic name with snap and vivacity.

sexnotgender · 03/07/2018 17:37

Cherylan is hilariously bad, I can see why you're not speaking!

I like Vera. Cherry is grim.

Chocolatecake12 · 03/07/2018 20:28

When is your baby due?
Good plan to leave it a few days and maybe have a fresh look at names together when your both calmer.
I remember posting on your other thread about how positively I viewed the name Vera.

bringbackfonzi · 03/07/2018 21:31

I love Vera.
I think Cherylan is truly terrible.
Cherry is at best a nickname, amongst other things for Charity, which I like.

Picknickers · 04/07/2018 00:47

Marcipex thank you. You have given me a much need laugh...and a bit of perspective!

Verity is sooo pretty.
Vera is frumpy and wrinkly.

What about Vida or Vita? Much more modern and wow.

GahWhatever · 04/07/2018 13:06

So tell us what you like about Vera, and what he likes about Cherry, and we'll bombard you with names which fit the same criteria until we come up with something you both like.

Please do :)

Also because I really would like to know what your DH sees in Cheralyn, tbh ;)

Picknickers · 04/07/2018 23:40

So I asked OH where Cheralyn had come from and he said it was one of the house clearers on Hoarders Hmm What a great role model eh?! Don't fancy telling her that as a teen. I love Vera because to me it's short strong and somehow dreamy. I really dislikes Verity. I worked with a vile one who was actually ferrety and it's too frilly and flouncy. So please, any ideas of short dreamy names which could be used to clean up hoarders houses? Grin
