I can’t decide which name I like best. Her middle name will be Elizabeth and last name begins with a C.

Naomi is lovely. I was tempted by the French version when we were naming DD2 which is Noèmie.

Naomi

Amy is the dullest of the dull and stuck in the 80s.

I think both are pretty, I know a few Naomi's and they are called 'Nemi' as a nn which I think is cute. Amy, I'm biased because I love Amy Winehouse, Amie is a nice spelling too, seen that quite a lot.

This thread has really cheered me up after a crap day 😂

How the hell did my post end up here!! I'm so sorry. It was meant for the thread about the bin collection!

BikeRunSki · 05/07/2018 19:19

7 years ago this was our choice!! Smile

We chose Amy. She rocks!

Our hesitancy with Naomi was the pronounciation, and Amy also flowed better with our traditional family girls middle name.

Mousefunky · 06/07/2018 15:06

Never met a nice Amy and I’m a tutor so I have come across a few...

Naomi is my DP’s sister’s name and I quite like it. The only issue is some people will pronounce it Naiomi which she gets pissed off by.

NAomiNOTNiomi · 06/07/2018 15:32

Have you decided OP?

daisypond · 06/07/2018 15:33

They're both fine. I prefer Naomi as I find Amy a bit bland.

Shlomps · 01/08/2018 19:33

Another NAY-omi here Grin--

I agree most people say Nigh-omi, which I hate. I used to correct people when I was younger but I've resigned myself to it now. Nayer-mi/Nair-mi grates less. I spend a lot of time in Europe (foreign DH) and this widens the pronunciation possibilities considerably! It seems to be hard to say for some speakers.

Although, I am always called Nomes by friends and family and rarely hear my name anyway.

Despite pronunciation drama, I do like my name. I've only come across a couple of other Naomis, in my life. I wouldn't say it was a common name. It seems to be one that is never in fashion or out of fashion.

The spelling variations, however, are insane. Ive never had someone in Starbucks spell it correctly although I think everyone has this problem.

I’m an 80’s baby named Amy. It’s definitely a meh name IMO, very boring. Even Emma is better! Thankfully my parents didn’t use the horrible Aimee spelling though do I suppose that’s something. Can’t say I like Naomi either (I pronounce it Nigh-omi) so I’m not much use to you. Wait until baby is here and choose then Smile

lookingforaline18 · 02/08/2018 19:47

I’ve decided I prefer Naomi. But only when it’s said NAomi. So many people say Nigh-omi. I don’t even know why they pronounce it that way because there is no “i” in the middle of it. And then people will spot the the “imoan” 🙄 if you spell it backwards which my in laws will find hilarious as they dislike the name.

I love the name. Love love love it.
