I can’t decide which name I like best. Her middle name will be Elizabeth and last name begins with a C.

Naomi

DramaAlpaca · 30/06/2018 20:01

Both beautiful, elegant names.

I prefer Amy.

The problem with Naomi is that there are several ways to pronounce it, which could be annoying when people get it wrong.

Amy

I know an Amy Elizabeth and she's brilliant Smile Amy for me!

FlyFatarseFly · 30/06/2018 20:08

Naomi for sure.

Every Amy/Aimee/Ami/Amie I've ever known has been a bitchy mean girl.

YoucancallmeVal · 30/06/2018 20:14

Amy. Like Nay -omi rather than Nigh-omi but all the women I know with that name are nn Nay which I don't like.

These were my two names 13 years ago! I couldn’t decide either. Baby was a boy so didn’t have to. Grin I remember him being born and it didn’t occur to me to check between the legs, I just looked at his face and thought “well you don’t look like an Amy OR a Naomi!”

NapQueen · 30/06/2018 20:18

Amy. But Aimee.

Peachbubble · 30/06/2018 20:26

Amy

farmerswifey2 · 30/06/2018 20:27

I went to school with a Naomi, everyone used to call her 'I-moan' (Naomi backwards).

IWouldLikeToKnow · 30/06/2018 20:31

I love Naomi.

Donotbequotingmeinbold · 30/06/2018 20:34

Amy! Lovely!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/06/2018 20:37

Amy.

falaffels · 30/06/2018 20:38

Love Naomi. Best when it's NAY-omi not Nay-O-mi.

lostfrequencies · 30/06/2018 20:39

I like both but prefer Amy.

Noscrubs · 30/06/2018 20:39

I Naomi (said Nay-Omi). I do know someone who has a Naomi but says it more like Nayer-mee.

Is it just where I am where there’s a third pronunciation of Naomi.
Here it is sometimes sort of a nair-me.
I like Amy best.

lookingforaline18 · 30/06/2018 21:00

I can’t decide! I LOVE both!
I think I’m going to have to put the names in a hat or something..

Just wait til you meet her.

LoveInTokyo · 30/06/2018 21:52

I really like both but you will get some pronunciation issues with Naomi.

NAY-omi and Nay-OH-mi are both fine IMO but you will find some people say Ny-omi, which would really put me off.

Amy is lovely and underused these days, and impossible to mispronounce.

NAomiNOTNiomi · 30/06/2018 21:56

I'm a Naomi and I really like my name, BUT, I would say that over 95% of people don't say NAY-omi, they say Nigh-omi, and it drives me absolutely mad! I hate it. Even when people have been corrected they still do it.

Just wanted to give you some feedback on what I get, I've met others that get the same, but equally some who don't. It doesn't seem to be a regional thing as it's just the same (lived for many years in London, now in the North West).

A few people have said mine Knee-oh-me, a few Naya-me, and then the most frequent Nigh-omi. It's so nice to have my name said properly as it happens so rarely. Don't even get me started on the way it can be spelt!
